I'm currently in the research and development phase of building my first cabinet and planning on including an optical gun. As a Time Crisis fanatic I would love for it to have that awesome blow back feature seen in the arcades. However, I haven't been able to find an over-the-counter model other than the LCD TopGun (http://tinyurl.com/y9mzbb) and I was unimpressed with a video of it in action (http://tinyurl.com/2z26tt). Soooo I was considering gutting the ACT LABS Light Gun (http://tinyurl.com/ytvj5y) and trying to shove it in some replacement Time Crisis gun halves (http://tinyurl.com/ypowfl). Happ also carries the replacement solenoid that I assume I will need but I am open to suggestions on this as well because it is pretty pricey ($129.99!) I realize it won't be simple but any thoughts on if it might work?

If you like Time Crisis so much do what I did and build a cab then put a PS2 in it. I don't have recoil guns yet, but you can buy reload pedals from RedOctane. THere are also some stores on Ebay that sell recoil guns for the PS2.
I have 2 pedals and 2 guns install on my PS2 cab. It's alot of fun.
That's a much cheaper solution than spending $$ on something that might not work.

there are A LOT of guncon2's with recoil for sale on ebay and such... you just have to run some wires into the PSX port from the computer and splice in a little IC chip that changes the 12V to 9V... ive got 2 uzi's with recoil and its nifty

OK, first of all LCD Top Guns don't have recoil, they "vibrate" not even close to the same! also i have NEVER seen anyone successfully hack a light gun into another case, i have seen people try, never seen it successfully.
OK, next problem, i didn't think Time Crisis played at full speed on MAME, i haven't tried in a while so i may be mistaken. your best bet might be with a PS2.
if you do go with a PS2 and pick up a few Guncon2s you can also use them in Mame. guncon2pc drivers have got quite good, if you dint mind ALOT of tweaking to get them just right it could work for you, plus they look "right" and have GREAT recoil. i have 2 and wouldn't change except to LCD top guns (i never use the recoil, i find it too annoying/loud/distracting)
