Title: Am I asking too much for this?
Post by: jfh2112 on August 23, 2007, 12:06:15 am
I decided to sell my Mortal Kombat last month. I posted an ad on craigslist (http://jackson.craigslist.org/tag/379496983.html) for $350, then after getting no bites, lowered it to $300.

Am I asking too much? It's in really good condition, except for what's mentioned in the ad. New controls, etc., even has the books & decals. It *is* a conversion cab, but I figured there weren't a lot of collectors around here, TBH, who would care that it used to be a Simpsons cab.

 ???:dunno

EDIT: I don't know how to format URL tags, apparently :D

I would have bought it for $350 for sure when I was looking for my Cab, I love the MK cabinets, must just be your area.

Damn, I would snatch that up if I was close enough.  You should raise the price to 500.  Maybe people think it is not working since you are selling it so cheap.

Wanna drop it off in Houston?

Double the price and add gilded, limited edition and rare to the description.

That's not a bad idea. ;) I may try that. No deliveries, though, sorry; I got nothing to transport it in anyway. But bring me some cash & you can have it  8)

I went to eBay to compare prices. Yikes. (http://cgi.ebay.com/Mortal-Kombat-Arcade-Machine_W0QQitemZ180149391864QQihZ008QQcategoryZ13716QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) But here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/Mortal-Kombat-3-Ultimate-Arcade-Fighting-Game_W0QQitemZ220142563789QQihZ012QQcategoryZ62053QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) one that's a converted Konami cab, like mine, but more beat up and less non-ugly for 1/3 the price. So yeah, I'm gonna kick the price up a bit & see what happens.

On craig and selling locately, it all depends on the interest in the area.  That's probably the bad part of selling anything that can't be delivery at a reasonable price.

I was afraid of that. Seems like I'm the only guy in the area interested in retrogaming. There was the guy I sold my MKII shell to, but he lives just east of Jackson ('bout 1 1/2 hours from here), so I don't necessarily count that as "in the area".

On the positive side, though, I can prolly score some neat stuff pretty cheap.  ;D

Well, I kicked it up to $500 this morning. The ad runs for another couple weeks, so we'll see.

It's like selling a car. You have to wait for the right person to come along....

I had an MK III that I had for $350 on CL and I got no bites.

I'm in SoCal and there is enough inventory in the area do drive down prices.  Great when you buy.  Sucks when you sell.

I put it on Ebay and got $255.  By that time, I was just glad to get rid of it.

So begins the experiment.

http://jackson.craigslist.org/clt/408461972.html

Relisted it this evening, in Collectibles instead of Games/Toys, at $500, with a picture of the game in action, and I even included an eBayism in the title.  8)

Hummmmm

Just clicked the link and read the post.

So much for "truth in advertising".

Honestly... the machine looks good, but it's obviously not the original cabinet.  If I was in the area and saw the posting, I would offer you $150 and see what you say.

I would say $350, which is where I started in the first place.

I also never claim that the game is in its original cabinet. As you said, it's painfully obvious to us that it's in a Konami cab. Anyone who's ever called or emailed about it before, that's the first thing I tell them. I did do restore work on it, I did replace everything I said I did, the monitor does have a great picture and there's no burn-in.

I'd very much like you to point out where I lied in my posting, because I just don't see it.

I suppose an argument could be made that you are claiming it's an original cab by using the word authentic in the description.

Seems to be splitting hairs to do so, though.
