Title: My Latest Ebay Conquest
Post by: skim36 on August 18, 2007, 04:45:03 pm
Here's my latest find.  A Vectrex Arcade System with a carrying case.  Nice...
Includes overlays and manuals, even had a game flyer.  I love ebay.  I heard that there was a Vectrex system recently on ebay that was unopened that went for over 4 grand.  wow.

Man so you were the one that ended up with that.  Awesome find, what was your final bid, if you dont mind me asking?  I was going to bid on it but I lost track of it and real life took a wild swing so I missed the close on that beauty.

The new releases are usually limited to 50 or 100 copies... if you're not there when it is released you end up paying $100+ for a copy later.

I ended up paying about 218 final cost.  The pitcher's duel cartridge I got off a separate auction.  But I had to have it.  It's not the limited ed. green cart but it's the same game sans box or manual.  Game is actually only 90 % complete.  These black cart versions were going for 30 a piece.  70 of them made.  I do plan on getting some of the new games for it soon.  Really nice to see dedicated people out there keeping the Vectrex alive.  Hats' off.

Great job.

I've always admired that little system - even way back in the day.  Still, with all the gaming crap I've had over the years, still never had one, let alone seen on in person!   :dunno

He doesn't have the new releases.  Those are sold mostly on rec.games.vectrex and sell out almost immediately.  Stuff like LOGO, Color Clash, 3D Lord of the Robots, I Robot, etc.

Hey skim36, would you be willing to scan your overlays? I don't know if you're aware, but Mr. Do, from the MAME Artwork Project (http://www.mameworld.net/mrdo/mame_artwork.html) has a side page with Mess artwork (http://www.mameworld.net/mrdo/mess_artwork.html).  It would be great to get high quality scans of overlays for these games to use in Mess. Let me know if you'd be willing to do this and I can get you in touch with Mr. Do.

If he doesn't, I could do that, I have an almost complete Vectrex collection.

I would do scans if I had a scanner.  Sorry.

I highly recommend the homebrew game Protector.  It is an absolutely fantastic game.  Better than any of the commercially made games for the Vectrex that I have tried.  I picked mine up for about $20 online.

Man - I need to bust out my old vectrex.

One of my dad's friends gave me his when I was probably 8 or 9 (21 now)

Probably had about a dozen games, a handful of which were pirated, haha.

I had a lot of fun on that thing when I did have it hooked up

If you have pirated games that old they could be worth some cash... Vectrex collectors are spendy and those are quite rare.
