Greetings All!....some of you know that I write for GameRoom magazine (www.gameroommagazine.com) and may have already read my Aug feature article about the King of Kong.
I've been following the story for months (and even have a follow up article coming in the Sept GameRoom), but for fun I thought I would post some behind the scenes photos that I took during the NYC premier (Sunday, 8/12) and Steve's attempt at another world record this past Tuesday at Dave and Buster's here in NYC.
In the photo where Steve's trying to make his record win....notice the GameRoom magazine on the table next to him!...talk about product placement! :applaud:
I have a ton of photos and video that will appear on the soon to relaunch GameRoom/RetroBlast! website...stay tuned!...and check out the movie...you're gonna' love it.
by the way...check out his "losing" high score....over 946,000!!!....and he got to the kill screen....that was just crazy!

That was a good write-up BTW.

Donkey Kong is kind of a lame game to get a high score on, IMO. There's not a lot of strategy and it just comes down to how long can you last when you get close to the unbeatable levels.
Spoken like someone who didn't read the article and is just shooting from his rectum.
There is a limited amount of levels. In order to get the high score, you have to find ways to maximize the amount of points you can get in each level. Billy Mitchell has been so secretive as to strategies, that he has never allowed publication of video of his record breaking DK runs.
I hope that a theater around here plays this movie. It will be a neat watch. And I still think this plays right into the alley of a Will Ferell comedy.

Is pbj channeling Chad?
-
...let's see just ONE of you guys even touch his "low" score of 946,000!......it will never ever happen...... :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:
-
I'd rather see a record like this broken than the "marathon" records like Missile Command. I suck at arcade DK myself, so these guys' efforts are very impressive.
-
So, is that a spolier? Billy won?
Is this going straight to DVD, or will it actually play in mainstream theaters?
-
The clip of the little girl on the website made me laugh. I can't wait to see this flick.

What's the "kill level"?
-
Level 22. You cannot make it to the top in the time alloted. It's impossible.
Donkey Kong strategy consists of figuring out how to make the most points in the time alloted on each level. On the barrel levels, you usually sit up next to Donkey Kong and jump as he releases them and then rescue the girl at the last possible second. The flame levels are trickier.
There is NOTHING to it besides how lucky you get from level 16 or so onwards.
So you've been to level 16?

the website is really cool with a lot of "hidden" video clips......hint, click on the quarters! www.billyvssteve.com

I took 1.5 gigs of photos & video that will be up at GameRoom soon.....including the q & a that I taped....I didn't want to post it all here.
And I was told.....that Ben Stiller would play Billy....and they were hoping for Bill Murray for Walter. I talked with the NewLine Producer for about a half hour.......
sorry KoolNO.... ; )

Man, am I the only one sick of Ben Stiller? I hope they don't turn it into another Dodgeball/Wedding Crashers "Jock Comedy".
Man, Bill Murrary would be awesome.

The movie won't get made anyways. This'll end up as one of the thousands of films that gets right up to preproduction, and then loses all support from the studios and gets shelved.

Hmm. . . IS playing in Dallas. . .

I just saw it. Really fantastic and I can't believe what a deranged butthole Billy Mitchell seems to be. You really do end up cheering for Steve Wiebe in this well-told dorkfest. Even my wife liked it and she hates videogames, although she called it a freakshow. :dunno
Anyway, go see it.
