I do manual settings (aperture priority most of the time) and know how to take pictures - BUT this screen thing is something else :)
I get: MOIRE PATTERN, and also the obvious black bars across the screen ... Not all the time of course, but enough to make me wonder if there is some info I am missing about this
Thanks - I imagine that it's something obvious.
Is it a specific shutter speed I need to set? I tried a few from 30 ms to ~100 without consistent success

I thought your pictures looked far better than most I've seen around here. You have the most important things down -- flash off, manual focus, manual shutter (~ 30ms-40ms works for me usually), and tripod. Another trick I learned is to set the MAME pause brightness to 1 instead of .65, and then pause the game when taking a picture to avoid motion blurr. I haven't found a way to avoid the moire pattern, although sometimes it's worse than others.

thanks for posting!
i hand held those shots while testing ... my trusty portrait 50mm f/1.8 lens made that possible at high ISO - at least for the quick tests it was ok
you bring up good points!
tonight i will try to perfect it by playing with the following:
. tripod
. pause and pause brightness setting
. lower iso as much as possible - to avoid noise
if i get any improvements overmy first test shots, i will write a wiki page about doing the process :)
stay tuned
thanks again - what a great community !!!

If you want to get totally rid of the moire you're going to need to use film.
Tripod will help a LOT.
