Title: WTB: Warhammer 40k items
Post by: AmericanDemon on August 16, 2007, 11:53:48 am
So my little endeavor into looking for Magic cards on here worked so well that I am now asking if anyone has some Warhammer 40k pieces that are collecting dust and are wanting to part ways with them.  I am primarily looking for Space Marine items but would not be opposed to other races.  Let me know!

I don't have any for sale or trade, but I just want to say that I use their fantasy miniatures for D&D props all the time.  I probably have 30 or more individual figures and a couple troop sets that I painted up.  Love em...but they aren't cheap.

Last time I played 40k was ~18yrs back; first generation rules, and miniatures made out of lead!

Worked in a comic book store at the time, and amassed quite the collection of miniatures.  Had a series of chaos armies (all four chaos gods), and a "Legion of the Damned" marine squadron.  I found a few of my boxes of minis a few weeks ago, and they've definitely been collecting dust (some of the boxes hadn't been opened in >15yrs).  Last time I checked I had ~2000 minis.  Most were painted, but I've probably got a few hundred unpainted ones in there too.

I'd have to hunt down the rest of the boxes, but PM me if you're interested; I'd be happy to unload some of this stuff and let someone else have fun with it again.  Might take me a while to dig them all out and find out whats even in there, but if you've got some patience then I've got a set of first generation lead miniatures for sale. :)

On a similar note, I am looking to sell some EPIC 40k stuff.

Didn't they come out with a pc game like  a year or two ago with the same name, kinda like a warcraft RTS style?

Maybe the figures from 7+ years ago, but the current stuff is extremely detailed and multi part. I'm sure it is possible but doubt it is easy.

In all actuality, you could use paper tokens to play the game casually with friends, assuming you know the stts of the units.  People buy the miniatures becasue they play in sanctioned and official tourneys.

I have some Tau stuff, mostly Kroot Hounds still in blister packs.  Just never got around to building my army and don't have the time anymore.  I'll try and see if I can find them.  PM me so I don't forget.

Is it true that the strength of the units derives from the retail price, though?

No, the retail price is usually based off how many they expect to sell of an item vs. the developement cost for said item. So a unit type that people only need a few of (HQ units for instance) to fill out their armies will end up costing more. If you are trying to infer that they make an over powered unit and jack up the price in order to rip off gamers, then I don't agree. Most of the higher cost items can't be fielded in large numbers anyhow.

Ill snoop around and see if I still have some laying around.  I know I had some Eldar and Imperial Guard back from 2nd/3rd edition.  Ill shoot you a pm if I find any of them (I played fantasy for years and ofcourse some just showed up when you buy lots).  But I am rearranging my office and "workshop" so I can add in one of my cabs, so everything is, well for lack of a better word, confoogled right now.

As for the one with the most money wins.  Well on the surface that seems to be true, but even with a more expensive set of units there is a fine line of strategy that comes into play.  Not as much as say ASL or even Memoir, but there is a good bit in troop selection, deployment, and ofcourse throughout the battle.

Id start playing again but it is so bloody expensive, and yall all know one expensive hobby is enough for most anyone, right?  Well that and according to the new fantasy rules I cannot use my wall of death strategy because that unit is now a special troop and not a generic one...
