I can't find red transparent film to turn the white EL light tape to look red. Any ideas on where I could buy something like that?

yep.
theatre suppliers , its called gel /filter, made by a company called rosco and others, you can order a swatchbook from them like this (http://www.rosco.com/us/filters/roscolux.asp) but if the colours are the same us and uk, i recommend #106, bfauska could confirm this if hes about :D
can you not just get red el tape , whats it for may i ask , im looking to use some for a project, be nice to know how it is to work with.
there are different types of gel but you wont need the higher end ones as they are more resistant to heat which isnt an issue for you

I'm lighting these from behind. I want them to have a red glow instead of white. They are about 1" x 1.25". I also bought one of these sheets to cut the pieces that I need. The guy at their company said I would be able to wire them all in series, as there will be ten of them. It sure does seem like a lot of work for such a small feature, but aren't they all hard work?

Cool ...... thanks
BTW: Here is the link --> http://www.rosco.com/us/filters/index.asp
You can go down to the bottom of the page and request a "Color Filter Guide" to be sent to you. It is a little booklet with tons of the color transparencies. I got one and each color filter is about 1"x 2" rectangle.

Thanks! I ordered that booklet. I'm also gonna try to find something local.

what was wrong with my link :D
mccoy i reckon if you order 4 swatchbooks(maybe to friends address') , youll have enough for your project as each sample would do 2-3 pieces i reckon

:-[ Sorry 'bout that. Thanks for the help, and I may very well have my buddies do that! ;)
-
well it didnt really stand out i guess ;)
to come back to the el sheet , i take it you can cut it up to any shape as long as you leave a white and a black bit to connect to?
EDIT forgot to say in the swatch youll get frost samples (diffusers) these may help as well but i suppose the source of light covers the area evenly anyway.

That is correct. Whenever I receive it, I'll do a full right up on it. I think this stuff would be great for cp and bezel applications.
-
totally dude i love the stuff, im a lighting designer by trade.
somebodys gonna make a kick ass tron cab with it one day, its the perfect application.
ive heard el wire degrades really quickly but it wasnt substantiated.
im calling that stuff you pictured el sheet, i have seen other stuff which is called 'el tape' which is coloured but i dont know if you can chop it up in the same way, but im gonna say someone who spends EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS on chips can afford to buy some samples to get the perfect result. :laugh2:
eight hundred dollars , that blew my mind, but you love what you love right

Well, let's just say I've had some success in the past year in the game of poker. The wife sees it as a 'business' expense. You can see my online results at www.officialpokerrankings.com (http://www.officialpokerrankings.com) and search for mccoy178. I've also had a pretty good run at our home games.

fairplay mate, the quality of that table alone deserves the chips , ill be looking to see how it lights up ;)

How about a car parts store? They sell red tape people use to patch up broken tail lights.
