I just got back from the premiere of Superbad. I would rate it the funniest movie since Dumb and Dumber. Really awesome and original.
One of the few movies worth the price of admission.
-
I went and saw Accepted last summer, won't make that mistake again.
Hmmm, same actors, comedy in August, which is well known as a dumping ground for crap movies, and it has been HEAVILY advertised for months online which is always a sign of a bad movie.
-
Hey, if Koolmoe says it's funny, then IT'S FUNNY!
Koolmoe knows funny.....
;)
I thought it looked interesting, and mildly enjoyed Accepted, but it sure wasn't Animal House for the current generation....
-
I have to admit that I think Superbad does look like a very funny movie from the previews, so I'll probably pay to see it in the theaters.

It has one of the same actors and it's not written or directed by the same guys. Superbad is from the guys who did 40-year old Virgin and Knocked Up. They wrote the script about 10 years ago and it was sort of a pet project for them. After their two hit movies, the studio gave them free reign to do this one.
Plus, who in the hell would even go see Accepted? No wonder you are tainted.
I was hesitant about seeing the movie because it is heavily advertised which usually does mean crap but this movie blows that theory away. It's awesome fun.
Trust me, go see it!

Superbad has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though only 14 reviews have been counted so far. But that's an incredibly high rating, especially for a comedy.
Also, Dumb and Dumber wasn't very good. I don't get what all the fuss is about.

I have to agree that Dumb and Dumber was only MARGINALLY "OK". Nothing to write home about. About a 6.5/10 on the "Friz Scale of 1-10".

I still laugh my butt off when I see dumb and dumber. That is one of my favorite comedies. Now the second one was total crap for sure.
As to Accepted, my wife set up two friends for a blind date, so we got dragged into taggin along to assure the girl that the guy wasn't a serial killer. ;D She picked the movie...NOT me. Note, never let your friends pick the movies you see at regular price, else you'll end up paying $16 to see Accepted, or even worse, Van Helsing. :dizzy:
I saw the rottentomatoes ratings, but I still think this is a rental at best.
And since we are on the comedy subject, Hot Fuzz was hilarious. Of course, I loved Shaun of the Dead so I figured this one would be good. The less you know about the plot of Hot Fuzz going in, the better it is. Remember that! ;D
-
I love D&Der...the toliet scene still makes my cry laughing. If you've only seen the edited verison on TV, then you are missing some of the best parts of the film.

Dumb and Dumber was crap, but this movie does look pretty funny.

Yup...that's the scene I was talking about.

I like the part in Dumb and Dumber where they sell a dead bird to a blind kid.
Reminds me of dealing with arcade collectors.
;D :applaud: ;D

Sounds like Knocked Up. I suppose they do have weed, though, right?

I saw Superbad with my wife and my Sister-in-law and her husband last Saturday. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a movie in a long time. I just about left after the first 10 minutes of the film. The fat kid drops the f*bomb about every other word in the film. He also talks extremely graphically in the first part of the film. There were quite a few people that walked out of this movie. There is a whole section on the pen*is that has nothing to do with anything in the movie really, but
The movie did have it's funny parts. They were pretty much every part in which the fat kid didn't open up his trash spewing mouth. Mclovin' was really funny and so was the fat kid's skinny friend. He reminded me alot of Steve Carrell ('the office' boss). There were also parts of the film that I saw in previews that were not in the movie. I really wanted someone to say "sounds like a sexy hamburger" to Mclovin like I've heard on the radio, but it wasn't in the movie.
This probably the most vulgar I have ever seen. If you can stomach all of the language for the funny parts then go see it. I for one pass on watching this again.
This movie sidelined me as bad as Boogie nights did. LOL I could have sworn Boogie Nights was a disco movie according to the previews.

Is that the movie with the group of dorks with one hot chick and the guy who wants to be a stuntman?

No, That's HotRod

Well technically, it is Boogie Nights too. ;D

Ah. My son wants to see HotRod badly because of the motorcycle jumps. He's only 5, though, so it won't happen.
Clearly, I've seen a bunch of commercials from both movies, and can't even tell them apart. They must be great.

I'm sorry but that HILARIOUS! Boogie Nights is an AWESOME classic as well.
Did you edit the word penis in your post? Jeesh, is that off limits?

I liked it. Very funny. But I'm curious KMC, why is this not a "jock comedy"?

Isn't it obvious? The 3 leads are just normal schlubs. Jock comedy first and foremost is anything that Dane Cook does. That "cool" guy crap where they will never really let themselves be seen in an unflattering light. It's all about the image of cool. Kind of like the Britney Spearification of comedy. Thankfully it seems to be going away now though. I don't need to ever see Owen Wilson playing the wacky guy ever again.

Agreed! I was gonna consider it a good review until he compared it to that pile and then concluded he has no taste in movies. ;)

Oh, c'mon! Wedding Crashers was ---smurfing--- hilarious. Pretty much every single part of the film that didn't contain Will Ferrell was perfect.

I concur wholly with that quote. Definitely a hilarious movie, but Will Ferrel wasn't very funny in it. He, and his Hollywood buddies have gotten the mistaken idea that just because he is on screen he is funny. Point in case, Anchorman. While it had its moments, it was not a very good movie as a whole and there were large parts of it that just weren't near as funny as he thought he was being.
-
Will Ferrell is about as funny as dipping your hand in the garbage disposal.

Clanggedin, you should watch the documentary "F*CK"
