well chalk up another frustrated xbox consumer. mine just red ringed today. 3 red rings of doom...suck. MS is sending me a coffin, and said it would be 4-6 weeks before getting it back and they would send me a 1 month xbox live subscription card. big whoop.
im not that annoyed because there arent any games out right now that i just have to play, but still, sucks. i do have a wii and metroid prime 3 is coming out in a week, so ill have that to play and i know for sure my wii isnt going to brick. ive never had a nintendo console brick or have any problems whatsoever for that matter. i take that back...the only thing i can remember is when my gamecube froze during a game of madden, but that only happened once.
i just hope MS sends me a new console instead of a refurb. i plan on asking for a new console but i doubt ill get one. just thought id vent :dunno

Have you tried the "towel trick?"
Might get you a few more days until the coffin arrives!

i do have a wii and metroid prime 3 is coming out in a week, so ill have that to play and i know for sure my wii isnt going to brick.
Metroid Prime 3 is coming out next week? Dang it, I wish I didn't read that because I'm sending my Wii in for repairs tommorrow, so it'll be a few weeks before I get to play it.

oh wow, you are the first person ive heard thats had wii problems. :o what happened to it? i did read one account where a guy had a problem with his like a week after launch, but that he got like 2 free games out of it and didnt even ask for them. plus they fixed it in like an hour...although he lived closed the nintendo HQ or whatever. but still, thats pretty good.

When I start a game the screen turns black and the Wii freezes, pulling the power cable is the only way reset it (holding the power button does nothing). It happens not only on Wii games, but also on gamecube and even virtual console games.
edit* just thought I'd mention that the Wii is sitting out in the open, so its not from overheating inside of a closed cabinet. The first time I found that it was broken was after about a month of not playing any games on it, but Connect24 was on the whole time and some online theories are that that is the cause of many of the problems (since the Wii is still generating some heat, but has no fans on).

i had an nes, and yeah there were "problems" with it....but it never bricked. i had to blow in the cartridges and smack them on the ground and stuff, and it would freeze every so often....but it never bricked. that was my point.

My little brother had to send his Wii in for EXACTLY this same problem. RTSDaddy on this board also had to send his Wii in, though I don't remember if it was the same problem or something else.

thats what my wife says. she said to me the other day "oh poor baby, you are now limited to playing your ps2, wii, brand new pc, or a 10,000 game arcade cabinet....boo friggity hoo." and yes, she did actually say boo friggity hoo.

Have never been particularly impressed with Nintendo quality control.
It must've just been you then. I never had any problems whatsoever with any Nintendo consoles...general consensus seems to be that the big N has the sturdiest, longest lasting stuff. And yeah, the NES blinked...but that was a rather simple fix.
I will say our GC at work started going down the crapper. The P4 port isn't registering correctly. But there is QUITE a bit of dust and such in that old building. Tried cleaning...and nothing.
Anyone got a broken GC?

Hmm. . . I've only had that happen on rental discs that were scratched to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- or when I'm doing something online and my DSL connection goes down.
VERY happy with the quality of the Wii.

The Wii we purchased just suddenly would not turn on one day....it sat there with the red light on as if there was no power to it - with my copy of Zelda inside. Though it took a couple of weeks (maybe three - four), we got a new Wii along with a new copy of Zelda. Nintendo was unsure of what bricked it. They did have fun, however, sending my wii back and forth between Pennsylvania and New Jersey for a few days....

My 360 has a hard time reading the new madden, which sucks, I'm a switch out the disc today and hopefully that fixes it, because with just over a month to go for Halo 3 that would suck to have to send it in.

well i just checked the status of my UPS Xbox coffin and it is supposed to be delivered to MS on wednesday. hopefully ill be one of the lucky few to get a quick return :laugh2: and get it back in like 2 weeks or something. that would be nice, seeing as that bioshock is out tomorrow and halo 3 is out in a month.

Heh, my Wii is already on its way back to me and should be delivered today. So basically it took exactly 1 week from the day I put it in the mail to the day I get it back :) To be fair though, the repair facility is only about a 1 1/2 hours away from me, so ups was able to deliver it in one day and return it in one day.
