Can somebody tell me what sit-down race cab is ?
-
No-one ? It's supposed to be a Konami....
-
star wars cockpit on diet ???
;D

star wars cockpit on diet ???
;D
Whahahahahhahaha, yeah it is very akin to it isn't it !!! Was my first thought as well: "Would look great next to the SW CP", and then "This could be a very good candidate for a dedicated Mame/PC/Xbox/whatever race cab.
I really enjoyed Darth Nuno's Daytona conversion, so this got me inspired.
I could grab it for pretty cheap, but since I already had to ask a friend to store the SW, where would I leave this one ?!?!?!?

Since you wouldn't let me store the SW cab for ya, I doubt you'd let me store this one for you. I say put it in the kitchen. Your family can eat standing up, right?

Actualy, he's on holiday right now, and he dropped off the key to the shed today     I feel a little devil on my left shoulder to go ahead, he wont mind
Would he buy it if he came back and he saw the extra cab that the SW has just multiplied itself ??

Why does that side artwork keep making me think of Back To The Future ?

Maybe the two orange stripes that look like tire marks (on fire) when the car was jumping time?
-
Just a note that there's another road-trip planned to go and pick this up tomorrow !
Over 4 hours driving, there and back since I will use a small trailer this time (and only allowed 80km/h with it ::) )
Road trip pics will follow of course....

OK it's here....more info later but it's definitly a Konami GT (GX400 PCB set). It's defective and dirty as hell (both were expected at this price). I think this PCB will be the first that I will give a good wash :D
Anyway, it was never meant to be restored....this will probably become my Mame/XBOX/DC or PS racer....
-
So...umm...when you gonna get a place for all of these cool games? I'm sure your buddy doesn't mind playing your Star Wars, but don't you think you'd like to play them sometime? ;) ;D
-
:laugh2: You are SO right Shardian....
You hit the nail on the head....
Currently I am investigating my options:
1) Use my attic:
Pro's:
- cheap
- relatively quick to get done
- no extra heating costs etc.
-Con's:
- can't get my cabs through the stairs.I can get them through the window in the roof and I would need to let a mobile crane come and lift them all in there. That leaves out both the cockpits though, these won't fit through the current room. I could replace this with a much larger one.
- not too much space, definitely no space for a workbench or something like that.
2) Build a concrete/brick shed in my garden
Pro's:
- Easy acces from ground level with cabs
- Very sturdy
- increases value of house
Con's:
-quite expensive compared to gained space, especialy since I will still need to use a part as my shed for storing garden stuff and bicycles etc. Will leave about 15m2 for game room
- No room for workbench
- will need some kind of heating
- requires piles which makes it pretty expensive
3) Build a wood shed in my garden
Pro's
- doesn't require piles
- relatively cheap
- quick to get done
Con's
- I'm really worried about moisture. Winters here are wet
- will need heating, isolation
- not very sturdy
- No room for workbench
- will need to use part of it as a shed
4) Install a pre-fab cellar in my garden
Pro's
- Lots and lots of space (about 45m2)
- Enough space for separate workplace
Con's:
- Expensive !
- will take long to get permissions etc.
- will need ventilation and heating
- need "cab entry" somehow (lift/talud ?)
- Most expansive
- it might even not be possible where I live
I in a part of Holland that is basically wet clay ground. If you want to build something heavy here, you need piles. Or your building will drown in the ground. On the other side, there's also a high level of water in the ground. That might push up a cellar because of the upwards pressure.
This is all the reason why homes rarely have basements over here.
I'm looking for all options, and have some requests for info running at the town government and 2 construction companies.
I'd LOVE to have that cellar.....but it's all a matter of money I guess...

OK pictures:
1)
Weapon of choice for this roadtrip: My brother in law's car (has a hook for trailers, unlike my car) and a borrowed trailer...
2)
It will actualy be a lot longer travelling since low maximum speed with trailer
3) Not a tunnel, it's a wild crossing !
-
1)
The seller had put the cab outside already
2)
Of course my son Mark is the first to "testdrive" the cab when we arrived.
3)
Loaded up. This cockpit only has wheels under the monitor part (SW CP has four wheels). Have to lift it to get it rolling but it works pretty well, actualy easier to handle then an upright with the same set-up of wheels, because the weight is much lower to the ground. Lifting it on the trailer wasn't very hard.
-
1)
Ready for return-trip, but first the seller shows me his collection........more on that further down....
2)
It was a long ride, and a bit bumpy sometimes, but we made it home alright !
3) Inside
-
1)
Just gas, seems potentiometer controlled
2)
Seat, a LOT more comfortable than Star Wars CP ! Dirty, dirty, dirty....
3)
Monitor is a Hantarex 19". PCB to the left. Looks like a JAMMA adapter !
Power supply (Hantarex 200) on the bottom.
-
2)

You can always repad and revinyl that seat. It is actually pretty easy to do. I redid all of the seats in a boat once and it went pretty quick. Of course, you could also add padding the the SW - you know, like it should have been in the first place. (Cheapskate manufacturers )
-
::)1) Better look at the Hantarex Power Supply. I've dealt with one of those puppy's before in my (now sold) Double Dragon....
2)
Before storing the cab, I removed the PCB set for some good cleaning. The monitor looks even dirtier than the PCB and I wonder if it's any use to try and fix it. I already discovered a cap (elco) that has a nice round topside.....anyway, I could use a TV, or maybe my old 20" PC monitor...
3) Yugh !

Indeed ! I guess Atari figured that they wanted the player to get out asap again after they dropped their quarters ;) Won't use any permanent stuff in the SW CP though, I always stick to original (as much as possible)
-
1) Konami GX400 and....
2)
...backside of the PCB set....anyone recognize his name ? At least there's no doubt about what game it is...
-
So what are your plans with this one? A driving Mame?
-csa
-
OK, since it looks like there's a Jamma adapter on the PCB, I guess the racer cab is actualy some "general" racing cab from the UK. The fact that it completely lacks any game specific artwork or marquee also indicates to this.
The seller was a really nice guy. He is a fellow collector. Had a nice new house with a game room that he was still setting up. Already there: (Yellow) Computer Space (!!! 2nd CS I see within a couple of weeks !!!) Defender, Pac Man, Centipede and a Funhouse Pin.
He also had MANY more cabs in storage, waiting to be sorted and examined.
Made me look like a beginner :D

That is the general idea yeah, or XBOX/PS/DC....not sure yet :D
Of course I'll give the original hardware a fair chance first :D
-
1) There she goes...
2) Before
3) After
(Didn't actualy wash the PCB with the ribbon bands on it. These are on the lower PCB, and this was only dusty on the solder side, so I cleaned off the dust and cleaned the ribbons and connectors with some paper towel and my trusty "Dasty".
-
That's better :)
-
There's a separate small PCB at a connector on the upper PCB, which clearly interfaces the controls. There's a connector for steer, accelerate/brake (?). These are soldered to a single connector. There's also a third with the indication "action seat" Now that might be interesting :P
Gotta get that Jamma adapter from the cab (forgot it :banghead:) so I can test it in my Mame cab...at least if the PCB runs....you never know :P
-
Isn't the internet great :D
http://www.jammaboards.com/guides/Konami%20GT.txt
(Mainly put here for my own archiving :P)
Strange that the brake pot is also wired up when there is only a accelerate pedal....
-
have test the pcb on your other cab ?
-
Turned out that the adapter is NOT a Jamma adapter.....
I will have to manualy wire it up to a fingerboard or something to give it a test run.....hope I have some time for that this evening.
-
Yi-ha it runs !!!
Don't ask how, but I wired up a Galaxian to Jamma adapter to the Konami connector with just the video and power lines, just to see if it would start.
I connected it to my Jamma/Mame cab and nothing happened. Nothing, zilch. Then I realised that the PCB was not getting any power, because my Mame cab is of course powered by the PC supply.
So I wired up a Power Supply and, yes it runs !!!! (OK, upside down first, but that's just a dipswitch setting)....
Didn't try sound though, but I have no reason to believe that it won't work...
Nice :)
-
Mmm, the DIP-switch that is supposed to toggle the flip-screen doesn't seem to work. Tried all DIP switches and none flips the picture :dizzy:
The initial test messages ARE displayed correctly so it must be the DIP not working properly. Maybe the water has damaged the DIP switches. Some others seem to work OK though. I'll try and measure some more.....anyway, nice to know the PCB is in working order...
-
Well, worst case, you could do a yoke flip :-)
Congrats!
-
please dimension this cab. it looks great!
-
Will do if I find some time, very busy weekend ahead though...
