Title: Catalyst Control Center and Component Video Out X800 Pro (Need Help)
Post by: ChicagoDave on August 10, 2007, 06:58:52 am
I'm having a problem getting component video out working on my graphics card. Note that S-Video output is working just fine.

My card is an ASUS X800 Pro, and this card has a "TV out" that does component output.  I do not need the special DVI to Component dongle that ATI provides.

Basically my problem is that when I hook up the TV via component out, my TV first displays the DOS POST screen and the Windows logo screen with a blue tint.  When Windows actually loads, the TV switches to "No signal or unsupported resolution".

The TV is an ILO DTV2794 27".  I got it from Walmart.  I think it's actually the same as the Orion TVD2710.

Since I have no display, I need to use VNC to remote desktop to the PC to see what the TV settings are.  For some reason, the Catalyst drivers do not seem to detect a TV at all.  When I use S-Video, I see a TV entry in the outline and the TV is in the "Dispalys" setting.  With component, I have no displays.

My hunch is that the card is trying to send a 480p or higher signal to the TV and the TV will only accept a 480i signal, but I can't seem to see the place I need to set this.  I also wonder if I need to actually hook up a real PC monitor the first time to set this up.  I figured using VNC would be fine.

Can someone please post pictures of their Catalyst setup screens so that I can see how you have  things setup using component video out to a TV.

Just a reminder, S-Video works fine, I just having a problem with component out.

Thanks in advance!

Catalyst control centre has a "Force TV detection" tick box - have you tried that?

Yep.  I have it always on for my S-Video hookup.  I tried it both ways with component with no luck...

I have an update on this.  Today I switched to the ATI DVI to Component dongle that is available for some of the other ATI cards and now everything is working fine.  It seems that the component adapter that comes with the X800 is the problem.

Overscan was a serious problem.  I went into the service menu of my TV using the "hold the volume down on the TV and hold 9 on the remote" method and was able to adjust my picture so that whole thing now fits on the screen.

The quanilty of the Component input on this TV is much better than the S-Video and I am happy with the results so far.  The text in Windows is now clear and fairly easy to read.
