Title: How do I make a wiring harness for a pin header?

I was going to buy the wiring harness from Ultimarc for the IPAC to simulate the LED keyboard flashing on my panel but that harness already has LEDs attached to it.  I have my own LED buttons already so I need to make my own.

Right there on the left side, above the letters "PC."

I really have no idea how to do that.  I understand Andy's pinout diagram but just not physically how to create what's necessary to make it work.  I assume I'll need one or several of those pin header connectors and attach wire to them.

Any pointers on where to find these and how to put them together with wire?  Thanks.

The only 'problem' is their handling charge (of $5) on small orders.  But maybe you could use some other parts?

You can also look in your junk box.  Old serial port cards used a header about that size and the cable can be cut and split to wire your leds.  Other smaller connectors can be used together to make the connections that you need.  For example if you have an old computer chassis take out the connectors that connect the front panel to the mother board and you have enough connectors to connect your leds.

You can also use a larger connector and only use the slots you need.

headers have different shapes and size's but have you tried a regular pc IDE cable yet?

No, I hadn't, but that's an interesting idea.  I wonder if it would fit.

Same with the old motherboard idea.  There's a computer collecting dust in the garage, and although I had planned to use it for a project someday, who knows when the hell that will be, plus it's a P2 so it wouldn't be great performance-wise anyway.

Thanks for the ideas.  If none of that works, I'll definitely be checking out Digikey.com.
