preview version 1.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=51525.0;attach=85269;image) (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=51525.0;attach=85268;image) | A while back I was working on a MaLa layout - I've done infinite crap variants of it, but thought I might bundle something and set it free now. I've submitted to the MaLa site for Swindus to consider adding to the layout downloads (http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/layouts.html) page there ... if you want it, wait for Swindus to upload it ;) It's based on backgrounds at 1280x960 but is 4:3 scalable, rotatable, requires two fonts (included), and really wants to have those nice big Mr Do! cabinets set for Definable 1. It can be hacked to support machines for emulators other than MAME if you're willing to give up a marquee or some other field available to non-MAME emulators ... or if you take the time to combine all your lists and run via batch files under the main MAME config etc. Such exercises are left to the reader :) edit: submitted to MaLa website September 26 2007. Download (http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/layouts.html) available there whenever Swindus gets to it, or attached below (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=69785.0;attach=85286). | hacked for pinball (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=51525.0;attach=85271;image) (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=51525.0;attach=85270;image) |
Does this layout scale, or is it set to a fixed res?

Sorry philby85 I forgot about that post - now I just look like a grumpy arsehole ;)
I'll try and tidy things up in the next few days and submit a finished layout.
Sorry been meaning to get back to this.
The file's been downloaded 19 times and there isn't a single comment about whether it works or not :banghead:
Looks nice! How about throwing an animated background in there to spice it up a bit?.....No No.... That would be 'Too Much' Bling Bling 8)
...There was one layout that caught my eye. I can't find the post at the moment, but the layout included buttons for multiple emulators. I was wondering if you would be willing to share that layout and or see if you can't dig it up for me? I am new to the Mala world but have been working on playing with it to try to familiarize myself with the FE before I actually set it up. I know that I will want to use Mala and more than likely will have to setup a tree within Mala. So your layout looked like it was what I need.

There have been heaps of variations on basically two core layouts - click some links in posts of mine above, or check this post out.

I think you meant this one? (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=62620.0;attach=68314;image) (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=62620.0;attach=68313;image)
That one is nearly the same layout as this, but with an emulator menu built in. The thing is - the way I've done layouts with "buttons" (really just a highlighted menu - there's no mouse cursor control in MaLa) is to avoid MaLa Tree. I have nothing against it, but wanted to do things another way.
If you think about it a while you might see that this way of doing things is quite particular to the number and type of emulators I run - and makes releasing it in any useful format for other people exceedingly difficult. To be useful, you'd need to get in and generate new images to suit one specific software configuration, and by that stage (and if you have the skills/software to do that) you may as well just generate your own layout files. I have sent the PSD files to a few people who have wanted to tinker; I have no idea what, if anything, ever came of that. And unfortunately I'm really too busy these days to do custom work for people...
Mala's great in that you can bend it to do so many different things - I do encourage you to explore and play :)
Ok here you go.
Posted in the other thread since that's where that design lives.

Hello Shock_. Thanks for posting. May I ask, what flavor of software applications you are/were using to create your excellent layouts? Thanks,
Well whaddya know - there's a 2 meg limit on MaLa layout uploads :)
What to do, what to do... obviously the answer is for me to get over my colour indecision.
Can anyone (with taste) who has tried this suggest which colour to submit as the official build?
Glad you found it useful ... I feel special displacing Gamelauncher... kinda like beating Kasparov or something :);D
Is that tweak necessary because your cab display isn't 4:3, or is there a bug that you can see?
Either way, here is a working Photoshop file for anyone who feels the need to tweak a few things.
I'm just paranoid... hack away !!
Hi,
I have the un-modded layout on my cab so far... :)
It's on my to-do list to mod it Using the PDF of the background image I downloaded from a earlier post in this thread. Should not be very hard. Then the super easy bit is just to use the layout editor to move the elements around to match it.
Next week maybe
I'm just curious why the layouts have black strips above and below or to the left and right. Why not use the entire real estate of the screen?
Here is the sort of effect dmworking came up with at the end

Nidz mentioned they're 17" LCDs so I'm assuming they're 1024x1280 native (vertical). Check this out:
that is great :) You da man! You da man! thats all I can say :)
So where is the mala layout download??? hhehe great work mate
