Title: Sticky items in Project Announcements
Post by: patrickl on August 06, 2007, 05:20:04 am
I notice that more and more Project Announcement threads get a sticky. I need to scroll down to even see if there are new posts in that forum.

I really don't see the point of making projects a sticky. The important threads stay up there anyway. The selection seems it a bit arbitrary too.

If it is to point new people to cool projects then why not have just one sticky explaining where to find the examples database and/or the hall of fame.

OK, I know I'm whining, but can't we do without sticky items for regular projects?

Seems like a good point to me.  Maybe put one thread of "what is your favorite project thread?" at the top of that section as a sticky and then people could link to the threads they have learned the most from or enjoyed.  Only linking to the examples or hall of fame only shows the finished products, while the works in progress are sometimes as cool or cooler than the completed cabinets out there, linking to peoples favorites would be a clean way to show new comers where to look for good ideas.

I've been spending a lot more time recently in the project threads, and was thinking the same thing. A favorite projects sticky could definitely help consolidate the stickys that are presently.

IMHO there are not too many stickies in the PA forum.  There are only 6 and two of them are locked.  Heck IIRC there are more in the BST forum.

This does give me an idea along those lines though.  How about a child forum called Hall of Fame or some such.  The child forum would be where some of the best PA threads get placed and locked.  The placement of these threads would be at Saint's desgression or any other Mod for that matter.

Heh. We did that once. Most contentious forum since P&R.

Which is why I suggested that they be locked for viewing only.  If you decide not to then that is fine I just thought I'd throw the idea out there.
