as far as i gather they have both installed ok and arcade os loads but display's a empty list of games even thou there are games in the mame roms folder.
when i go to run a game manualy in mame i type dmame spyhunt -soundcard 0 and nothing happends just sits the not even thinking
and idea's
thanks
-
i would ask that question at mame.net for sure. the guys over there know mame inside and out.
-
David,
Make sure the following is in your arcadeos.cfg file
instantstart=0
This checks for available roms at menu startup. You can change it to '1' once your games are listing ok.
Also check:
mamepath=c:\<name of directory where you have installed mame>
and
infoexe=<name of mame executable you want run to obtain list of roms available i.e. 'dmame.exe'>
Also, have your roms inside the 'roms' subfolder. This could explain your problem running from the command line.

msvcr80.dll
msdvcr.dll
and other waffle
-
come on guys i really need your help on this one !
i have had a play around and from the looks of it arcade os is fine now, its MAME !
whats the best version of mame to get for dos??
-
Something old...
Try .79 and work your way up. I would look at the whatsnew.txt to see what kind of support each version has, and see if it has any features you want. At this point, it's up to you for trial and error...

sweet thats the exact sort of website i have been looking for !! umm there all DOS mames yeh??
andd im presuming BUT mame works on windows 95 in any PC yeh??
-
forgot to say but basicly i want to run altered beast so bad !!! i bought the PCB off of ebay relativly cheap and have just downloaded the rom and am planning to buy and download a few of other games i like
all mames support altbeast.zip (DOS) .. do they??????
DOS roms are still .zips yeh ????
thanks again

I'd really consider upgrading to at least windows 98se or else just boot into pure DOS mode at startup and run dmame from there. You can use the EDIT app to make changes to your arcadeos and dosmame configs from there. I've put together a few cabs that didn't even have windows on them. If you want the best of both worlds, boot to dos then type WIN to start windows when you're finished with mame.
-
well heres teh deal !!
its a crappy 800mb HDD taht used to have 95 on then 98 then 95 then DOS and now 95 i would love to put dos on it but i have lots my dos 6.22 FDD set and if i put 98se on it i could risk filling it up with just 98 ! so i was hoping 95 would work but seems to be more trouble than its worth
i know when i had a dos HDD i stuck it in my pc as a slave put all the mame stuff on it plugged in as master and mame was working... althou dunno what version and it was on my original dos box that i shall be burrying this weekend cus its just so slow i put it to sleep ! and am gunna let it rest !!
if i shut down 95 and say restart in DOS will mame work then and if it doesn't does that mean for definate my copy of mame is bodged
cheers

You can edit your msdos.sys file (back it up first) and make the following change
BootGUI=0
then reboot your machine. It should boot straight to DOS
next cd to your mame directory, then type for example 'dmame spyhunt'
Let me know what happens. By the way what processor are you running in that machine??
-
well i will just put the pc back together a minute and boot it up see what the spec is as i haven't bothered to look brb
-
124mb RAM
CPU Cyrix II\IBM - MX 300
or summit WIERD i have neva heard of what eva thats suposted to be ! (i got that from BIOS)
-
Thats a VERY slow processor. You might want to look at fastmame 0.56 or older
http://www.arcadeathome.com/
It will give you about a 5-6% speed boost
Also have a look at fastvid, its a dos video speedup program, but I don't know if its cyrix compatible
-
well the pc as it was used to run 98 relativly ok from memory but i have had it like 2 weeks and in my intier little life of just under 16years i have never heard of Cyrix.... what the hell is it !
how about i scrap that PC EVEN thou it has usb!!
and get out my trusty TINY with 48mm RAM 8gb Windows ME, NO USB, good ISA soundcard..... with wait for it AT PSU !! its OLD older than this Cyrix thing at least that has usb and ATX PSU
the only problem being if i get out the TINY and use taht for my arcade machine is i will have to get some sort of toggle switch for my control board on the front of the pc rather than a push in SPST switch :hissy:
-
i ahve too of these TINY's there brother and sister
TINY 1 is a Pentium 1 with MMX technology
TINY 2 is a Athlon of somesort must be about the same power as the pentium if not a bit more powerful (Runs Me VERY well) got quite a few arcade games on it and they play like a DREAM
the pentium was my first EVER pc and has not been touched since i had it and therefore want to look after it not damage it HENCE the athlon is teh arcade machine INFACT it was my arcade machine for a bit!!
only problem being its a AT board with serial mouse port that only sometimes accepts the serial to PS/2 adaptor and a AT keyboard port !! although the ps/2 keyboard adaptor always works
-
You might get away with running the older games on the cyrix. I ran most classics at good speed on a PII-350 using fastmame and fastvid with 128mb ram and a 420MB HDD.
-
i will give the tiny a try soon and see if mame works on that
cheers
-
HA this cyrix thing is WIERD
OK
Arcade OS now lists games WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWO BUT
it comes up say Running Spyhunter and well tahts it it doesn't load !
idea's please
-
oo actualy it pops up ERROR select audio device
does taht mean my mame .cfg is not configured correctly??
-
ok point take that processor is SLOW !!!!!! i mean OMFG ten mins later mame did play spyhunter !!! very jumppy thou!! now to see if it will play spyhunter through arcade os EEK this pc runs windows at a really good rate for its age but MAME !!!! NO WAY SUCKS got to get something more powerful
whats a decent spec for mame??
-
Just buy the CHEAPEST Dell you can get. It will run Mame well. If you want to spend alittle more, get the cheapest non celeron based pc.
Zeosstud
-
ArcadeOS is for DOS *only* not Windows. It won't run properly under it.
Please post both your ArcadeOS.CFG and mame.cfg files.
-
well latest update
i for the minute load Windows then say restart in DOS mode.
then
C:\> cd C:\arcade
C:\arcade> arcadeos
and it loads up the list of games and i hit go on say spyhunter, it says running spy hunter and it runs BUT SLOW PC
now the reason i kept getting it saying error select audio device IS mame.cfg wasn't updating!! ALL taht was in it was the directory bit NO config SOOOOOOO i went on the need copied somebody's cfg and arcade os now works !!!! but i haven't got round to changing them to what i want yet but hey ho
i will post them later today

I would try sypstyles dos boot disc
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=58809.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=58809.0)
or try vantage it has a limited amount of games but it will run on anything
