That has been done before, even if they say it hasn't.

re: the emulator...

The games will be played through the original arcade machine microcode via an arcade emulator system specially customized by Matt Polak from Cleveland-based Raven Systems Design. The customizations convert the game's original vector lists into lighting-fast laser beam motions. The light will be supplied by a groundbreaking high-powered color laser system by San Jose-based Novalux aimed into a special dual-scanner mirror system assembled by laser systems expert Steve Heminover of Chicago-based Aura Technologies. In addition, Clovis, California-based WestControls has built authentic custom-built controllers using original arcade machine components.

The only one I know of is LaserMAME (http://www.nightlase.com.au/lasermame/). From the low brow description in the article, it looks like a different technique to accomplish the same thing.

They might also mean the scale of the project and the fact it apparently has colors.

In a way, I'm kind of jealous that these uppity ups get to play something of this caliber while the rest of us have to struggle to find working Vectors or make do with MAME's emulation.  :badmood:

It's not hard to find working vectors, you just have to be willing to pay the right price when you do find them.  Hell a guy was just selling a really nice batch of vector stuff here this week and his prices weren't insane or anything... but still, no one bought them.

I saw that thread and I think he was only willing to ship on one vector. I didn't have a chance to make an offer before he threw it up on eBay. Oh well.

Yeah, I kind of forgot about that thread. When I wrote that, I was thinking about how relatively easy it is to locate rastor monitors of all sorts compared to finding Vectors.
