Title: Having trouble configuring "Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D" for cabinet use
Post by: unclet on July 31, 2007, 09:37:27 pm
I am trying to configure it for my cabinet (like I did my other PC games), however I am having trouble.

Here is what I did to test it out:

1) Installed the software on my PC
2) Created an ISO image of the disk and placed it on my harddrive
3) Mounted the disk image using Daemon Tools and verified it was mounted on drive F:
4) Double-clicked on the EXE file to start the game, however, I get an error indicating I need to place the disk in the CD Rom drive.

I thought since Daemon-Tools mounted the ISO as a drive letter then the game should fine it and assume the CD was in the drive.  Perhaps the game is looking for the disk to be in a certain drive letter?

Any idea what is wrong or what is needed here?    Is there some disk hack I need to make the game not confirm the disk is in the drive?

My guess is that you will need to install the game from the ISO image as well.  The game is probably looking for the drive that the game was installed from.

Basically, mount the ISO and then install the game.

The game has copy protection that won't let it start unless the original CD is in the drive.  Daemon Tools does not inherently bypass copy protections.  You need to find a no-cd crack for the game.  That will let you run the game without needing the CD or ISO or anything.

I think I got it working by simply installing the game from the mounted drive.  I will integrate it into MALA tonight.

That's probably the easiest.  But a lot of times you can find some sort of config file (either ini or cfg or something) that has the install drive letter.  I've changed those several times on older games that didn't encode the config files.
