This weekend was my daughter's second birthday party, and after months and months of troubleshooting, questions, and trial by fire learning, I had my 3 games ready to rock for the event! The games are:
Asteroids (http://www.btdt.hypermart.net/asteroids.htm)
Ms Pac Man (http://www.btdt.hypermart.net/mspac.htm)
and Sorcerer (pin).
All 3 games successfully withstood the brunt of multiple generations playing them for a good 5-6 hours non-stop. The pin needed to be powered down and restarted on occasion, but that was about the only tech issue that took place. One of the things I enjoyed was the games were being played out in the garage, which is linked to the house- I had the door open and even while in the "main" part of the house, I could hear new game instances being started up regularly on all 3 games. I told my wife "maybe I need to go out there and set them to accept quarters!!!" and she said "you do and I'll KILL ya."
The part that I enjoyed best was, I'd expected most of them to be enjoyed by the children, but man was I wrong on that one.. my manager and her husband came for the event, and it was the first time I'd met her husband- in no time flat he was out playing the Asteroids machine, leaving her behind with their twins. She just sat shaking her head. But the big surprise was my 65 year old uncle playing the Sorcerer pin! Lo and behold, I came to find out he's a closet pinball lover, and always played them when he was a kid... and to prove it, he ended up with the high score on the pin! That totally blew me away.
Some folks in my family thought these old games were a waste of money when I was buying them and getting them up and running for the event. But the secrets they revealed, regarding our guests and their pasts, were simply priceless. I even got a pic of my 2-yr old daughter standing on a chair to play Asteroids! I think it's safe to say the tradition will continue. :D

That's awesome! We close on our house Thursday and then we'll start the process of painting and carpeting. Once that's done, however, the game room is going in. I'm going to have a huge BBQ with friends and family and my (modest) lineup will include:
-Ms. Pac-Man
-Asteroids
-Donkey Kong
-MAME (horizontal 27")
-Jurassic Park Pinball
-Data East Simpsons Pinball
Most of the guys coming over haven't seen my collection as it's all fairly young. They're all big console players, so it should be cool to see how they react to everything.
