Ok, after struggling alot with mala, I finally got Daphne to work. I'm following Uncle T's guide. For some reason Daphne wouldnt work for me until I switched %roms% to any other preset. Then it worked. But it appears in a large window instead of fullscreen, plus I can hear the game, but the window is black. Any ideas?
I'm also having trouble getting pc games to work

Dunno about Daphne stuff. UncleT is your man there
As to PC games try looking here:

It depends upon how you have it set up to run. Daphne needs the command line parameter to include "-fullscreen". So if you are using batch files, the batch file would have to include that parameter when launching Daphne.

I tried that with the pc games. Doesnt work for me. Error code 193. Actually it appears that some games work, but most don't.

I am using that option as per Uncle T's faq.
G:\emulators\programs\daphne\Daphne.exe ace vldp
-framefile "G:\emulators\programs\daphne\framefile\ace.txt" -fullscreen
–nohwaccel

Are you using the mala.exe version mentioned/linked in that post?
-
yes
MaLa v1.0 RC9
I have another issue: in FreeDO, button 2 (which is set as alt for me as per mame) tries to open drop down menus on the top of the window. Is there a work-around for this?
-
yes
MaLa v1.0 RC9
Well..... no, MaLa V10 RC9a beta2
It has the PC link fix. Just replace this mala.exe with the one in your mala folder
Here is the link again:

sweet! that worked, thanks!
So anybody familiar with FreeDO? the docs really arent that helpful. Or is it possible to have a different button config in Mala for one emulator?

Cool- You may want to edit the thread subject to MaLa Fredo/Daphne help to attract the right help

I am not sure why Daphne does not go fullscreen when using the "-fullscreen" option. Possibly you are using a newer version of Daphne and something is broken or changed for some reason? I use "daphne-0.99.7-win32.zip" version. I really do not keep up with Daphne ever since I installed it way back when. Did you try running Daphne manually using those option in a command window and see if DAphne starts in fullscreen? If it does not go into fullscreen when starting it manually in a command window, then I would say Daphne no longer likes the -fullscreen option. I can try to help, but if you find that Daphne does not work manually in a command window, then you might want to go to the following site, then click "Laser Community" and then select "Message Board" and ask a specific question (or report a problem I guess) in that forum:

As for freedo ...... I just use the emulator's defaults. I do not think freedo is very user freidnly when it comes to configuration ..... at least this is what I seem to remember. Pressing "ALT" is a standard in the Windows OS which means you want to access the menu bar.
-
I'll look into older Daphne versions and see what happens.
My problem is that I have everything set up to use mame default controller keys. Left alt is default for button 2. This conflicts with Freedo. Should I just configure MAME, MALA and every other emulator differently to work around this? Is it possible to disable that feature in windows itself? Or have mala change the controls just for that emulator? Can mala load a different key config somehow just for one emulator?
-
For each emulator I believe MALA can .....
1) check for a certain keypress (ex: Alt) and then send another key to the emulator. I never used MALA hotkeys, but seems easy enough to do...... read the following:
http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/hotkeys.html
2) can reconfigure the keyboard encoder for each emulator when the first game has been selected for a particular emulator. Basically, MALA can be set up to be smart enough not to reconfigure the encoder for every game selected, but only do it when the very first game of that emulator is selected. (note: Of course you could always configure MALA to reconfigure the encoder after every game (if you want to) ...... this comes in handy for PC games which are all listed in one "PC Games" list .... but this is another topic of discussion.)

The hot keys don't really work for this purpose. I used the post feature. Set the source as alt, and the destination as the letter O. Went into Freedo and changed button 2 from alt to O. During the emulator, when button 2 was pressed the drop downs would only occur sometimes. So that was kinda working. But the game was not recognizing button 2 being pressed.
-
Well then why not let MALA remap your keyboard encoder to use different key mappings for freedo?
