Title: Help needed to rotate Windows XP (Cocktail Cab)
Post by: mrtim on April 25, 2003, 05:35:57 pm
I find myself playing mostly Vertical games like DK, Pac Man, Galaga etc. so it's time to make a new top for my Cocktail Cabinet to turn the monitor 90 degrees.

Problem is that I will then have a sideways Windows OS. What solutions are out there to solve this issue?

Some of the newest video boards have a driver that supports rotating the OS.  Check your video board docs.  If you dont have that there is a utility program by Pivot Portrait for rotating your display.  It says it is not recommended for CRTs but someone tested it out and it worked ok.   I just do not think they wanted the liability of overheating a CRT display if it was rotated.

I think the program you are reffering to is $50? I'd be better of with a new board?

Latest ATI and Nvidia drivers handle this free of charge.  Do you have either of these video cards?

There is a program to do it...

And some frontends can handle it.  There are a ton of options...

Of course your best option is to wait until the end of the summer (when I've finished my cocktail and frontend)... but it will handle it SOOO SWEEET!    assuming I ever finish it.... and the configuration isn't too bad... and we can find a open 3d file format that everyone likes... And I get time to parse it... and... well... you might not want to wait for my solution...)

Game Launcher works in windows or dos, and it will rotate for a vertical monitor (only one way, so watch how you mount it.)

There are other frontends that will do this as well.

Good Luck.

Ah, just noticed you are talking about the OS only...sorry.

Either a video board that will rotate the OS or a $50 program.  The choice is yours.

Sometimes the 50 dollar program is provided with some LCD displays as part of the package.    Know anyone?

I have an all-in-wonder radeon 8500, and it has the rotation available. Also has an AWSOME tv out picture. This is what im droping in my mame system. But i guess thats a moot point since your using a monitor :P You can pick up thease cards on pricewatch for around $70 Or If you have an LCD screen you could by a wall or desk mount that swivels and pivots easily then moving the monitor back and forth would be real quick.
