Title: Griffin PowerMate question. Knievel?
Post by: cadis12 on July 27, 2007, 12:18:19 pm
I am currently in the plans to build a jukebox.  Searching the forums to get ideas on what to build.
Knievel has a sweet jukebox that he built.

He's using a Griffen Powermate to control his volume.  Griffen Powermate (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/)

My question for Knievel or anyone else who used this product:

How did you mount this item?  It's not like a spinner that mounts underneath the panel.  Is there a way to secure this in place or is it just sitting there on top the panel?

Thanks for the info!

You can take it apart and mount it through a hole if you wanted...although you do lose the visibility of the LED on the bottom.

Mine is just sitting there. It's heavy and has a silicone? base that helps it stay put.

Mine just sits there too - the biggest problem I have with the unit is it loses connectivity once in a while and needs plugged in again.

Yep, common problem.  I don't know if its crappy drivers or what.

While the computer is running? never had that happen.

So, Griffin Technology says it is an assignable controller ..and does just about everything  :notworthy:

How does it fare as a SPINNER??? Knievel, leapinlew, whammoed, anyone with hands on experience on the unit??

Does it work as a spinner? At all?

FYI:  Hasn't happened to me while its running...just when booting or plugging it in.

I received it today, but it will be a day or more before I get to test it out.  Nice and heavy, just a little smaller than what I thought it would be.  All in all, I think it's worth the money.

Bringing back an old post to life.....

I am AMLOST finished with my jukebox project.  It's taking me forever to finish but after having our first baby I am finding out that hobby time gets put on the backburner.

Anyway...I got my Griffin Powermate yesterday.  I still don't see how Knievel has his PowerMate cable conceiled.  Is the cable running through a hole or something behind the PowerMate?  I was looking at the unit to see if I could take it apart and run the cable through the bottom but it looks like I would run the risk of damaging the thing.  Maybe the newer ones are different these days but basically the USB cable comes straight out the back of the PowerMate knob.

Any ideas on how I can conceiled the USB cable while the unit is sitting on a flat suface?  Otherwise I guess I will just have the cable showing...  :-\

I'll post pictures of my jukebox project soon.  I am ALMOST finished!   :D

Mine is on a some what flat surface, you can't really see the usb cable unless you stick your head over the top.  Mine just sits in a small recess i routered out of the wood it sits on.  I'll try and get pics soon.  And yes, i have to plug and unplug the usb whenever I turn the pc on and off otherwise it won't see it.
