Title: Any use for us mame monkeys??
Post by: Dexter on July 27, 2007, 10:00:56 am

I'm using a 33" monitor and am cramped with space away from the screen so my LCD top guns aren't accurate. Just wondering if these will be any use??

im not sure how well the drivers work for the wii motes, but this might be a nice alternative for guns.  plus they are wireless.  you would still need a light bar for it to function.

The drivers and lightbars, seem to work pretty well, though i haven't seen them implemented in Mame yet.  But if it were my money I would definately shy away from the laser one, 'cause the Wii it's self doesn't have laserpoint acuaracy and with a single lightbar it doesn't know if you Monitor is 33" or 15."   For example if i taped a laser pointer to my wiimote, the dot would be about 2-3 inches lower than the cursor on my 25" TV.  What i'm saying is I might work but only if you have an onscreen crosshair to aim by and the feel will then be quite diffrent then aiming an LCD topgun

Depending on the drivers, the lightbar can be anything.  You could have some candles on top of the tv and it would recognize those if you wanted.  Don't waste your money until you hear about the windows software development though.

it is funny you brought this up.  just 2 days ago, i decided to connect my wiimote to my pc in my cabinet to try to use it as a lightgun.  i got it connected and controlling the mouse by tilting the wiimote.  using glovePIE.  then i found a script that used the lightbar IR tracking.  so i got that workign and was easily moving my mouse pointer around the screen by pointing at it.  it worked pretty good, but does not work with mame.  it was fine within windows and even MALA, but as soon as i launched a game, it was no longer recognized as a mouse.  i thought i had hit the jackpot and could play some good mame shooting games, but it looks like we will have have to wait a little while.  im sure eventually someone will figure out how to make this work in mame.
