Title: New Mame Changes: Qs
Post by: Xiaou2 on July 27, 2007, 06:38:25 am

Ok, Ive been using m32 or a varient for a long time..  but before that,
I was experienced in getting the command line version to work.

Now, they have changed mame to include a mimi front-end.. which is cool :)
However,  I do not know how to for instance, enable my mouse for
use in spinner games.

To be honest, it seems silly that its disabled by default.

The new Cfg file is basically blank... unlike previous versions which there
were written clues as to what you could change.

 Anyone?

Must have been a looong time. ;)  Mouse has been disabled by default since the beginning AFAIK.

Make the mame.ini file with "mame -cc", and either
a) (simple) set "mouse 1" or
b) (better) set "dial_device mouse"  This enables mouse on all games that use mame's dial type input, but not other games.  (Might want to do similar for other types of inputs.)

Or you can go download mala and install it. After launching it, point it to the mame.exe file.  Then, just use the gui to make all your configuration.

I thought the same thing when I read the original post. I didn't reply because I figured that I misunderstood the question. There is an online list of all the command line options. Its a bit ponderous to go through because its so long, but its helped me out on quite a few occasions.

This comes with mame, too.  Actually, starting with 0.117u1, the file has been split into two files.  Both are in the docs folder; config.txt and windows.txt.

 Thanks for the help.

I used to use Win98,  and so when making a shortcut in XP,  I see there
is ""  Quotes around the target.    This threw me off.

I tried to add - mouse  into the quotes,  and it told me that the
file could not be found.

Then I tried to add the mouse after the quotes.  Still a no go.

  Eventually I realized my mistake.

Mame 0.117u2.exe"-mouse    = no work
Mame 0.117u2.exe" - mouse  = no work
Mame 0.117u2.exe" -mouse   = Works  :)

 Ugg.  So Finicky.

 Anyway,  thanks again.

 :)

What DOES that new "front end" look like?  Anyone have a screenshot?  Opinions?

Not too bad for a minimalist frontend.

You simply can type a name, and it will find games that match.

However,  it would be nice if you could scroll thru the entire
game list.   Instead,  you are limited to a small selection
based on what you typed.

Maybe they could change the page up/down so that it
displayed other sections of the game list... Or maybe
press  Shift+Pg up/down...etc.

...so it's not going to take the place of Mamewah or Mala anytime soon...
