I recently put a 24" sanyo tv in the cabinet, and ever since windows is very blurry, it is very hard to read text. The tv has component input 480i. Right now i have it hooked up to svideo, im wondering if i change it to a component wire if the blurryness will decrease ? Or is there something else i need to do? Games seem to look OK, however it is hard to see what game you want to play due to the text being blurry. Is there anythign i can do to fix this ?

I could be wrong but any tv has pretty low resolution I had a 31" for a while and it was blurry, now I have a 60" and its very blurry, just for text though, but my 42" plasma looks supreme, I guess thats price you pay to have a real monitors resolution.

damn thats what i was hoping you wouldnt say :( . Think it would be worth it to use a DVI > component cable ?

I have a 27 inch tv and for my purposes, it looks good. Windows is blurry, but thats just a part of it. I use GameEx for my front end and I can see everything quite clearly and it looks sharp. I use a Tron theme with GameEx.
What front end are you using? A guess would be Mame32 since you are talking about picking games from Windows. Most of them look great but Mame32 isn't going to look good on a 24 inch tv. You may check the wiki for different front ends if you are using Mame32.

ill keep that in mind, i havn't exactly set up a frond end yet, because i was debating on what to use but ill check out game ex it looks pretty cool.

Component video would also look better than S-video. If you can output component, I'd do it.

make your font bigger.

TVs suck for displaying windows, it is just that way. you'd be much better off using command line mame and a nice frontend like MALA, and avoid windows all together.
-
right now, i installed game ex, and the blurryness has faded for the most part. However Is there anyway i can tell Game EX to start up as sooon as windows starts ?
-
you can either just copy a link into your "startup" directory in the all programs folder, or run your FE as a shell
try http://tomspeirs.com/gameEx/Shell.htm for info on doing this.
good luck

True...but they ROCK for use as a standard res arcade monitor IF they have a scart input. That way they effectively are an arcade monitor.
Of course I mean CRT TV's...

if you want to have gameex load at startup, that is as easy as placing a shortcut in the startup folder, however people will still see that you are running windows. if you want to completely hide windows...the wiki is very helpful
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Hiding_Windows
by following these steps, you can pretty much completely disguise your system so nobody even knows it is a regular PC. load your front end as shell and the desktop never appears at all.
i havent tried it with gameex, but it works like a charm with MALA

Once I set Windows to 640x480, I didn't think it looked too bad at all. Sure, the icons and such were huge, but I only use Windows to launch my front end anyway. The games look spectacular on the set. I'm using a DVI --> Component adapter though.

I found windows looks pretty crisp on my tv using component. At first it looked terrible, but I changed the background and all the folders/font to a black-green design. Now I can read everything without the white burning my retina.

And of course, the lower your resolution, the better picture you'll see.
-
Anything higher than 640x480 is pointless on a standard TV.

I am running svideo to a 25in rca tv and think it looks just fine.

It is typically impossible on a standard tv. Hi-def can handle it.
