Title: VGA board swap
Post by: paigeoliver on April 25, 2003, 02:53:47 am
My 19" Wells Gardener VGA arcade monitor is all messed up now (everything super yellow). I was wondering if I could try swapping in a set of monitor boards from a 15" PC monitor?

THink that would work?

Think my tube might blow up?

Maybe my problem is in my tube in the first place?

You can do some (limited) swapping with TV tubes and arcade monitor boards as they are the same type.  Very careful measurement of values and connections required.  There was a thread about 8liner replacement board wich work on arcade monitors or TVs.

That said:  DO NOT try to use an arcade tube and a PC monitor board.   They are completely different and you will probably get pyrotechnics or in the very least alot of smoke.  Very dangerous to your health and your fire insurance.

What will happen in your case where you have an actual VGA type arcade monitor is very iffy.  PC monitor boards are very specific to the tube that they are connected to due to the many avalable display modes.  I think it would be almost impossible to get a correct match.  Different size tubes use different voltages as well.  Smoke will most likely result from any missmatch.

I haven't tried to actually swap. But a quick check shows that they do have the same pins on the neck.

I know a regular arcade monitor and a PC monitor are very different. But VGA arcade monitors really just seem to be PC monitors in metal frames.

OK. Thanks. I think I will just go get one of them 21" Pixel Touch deals then. That place is only 20 minutes from my house anyway.
