Title: Distance between monitor and bezel
Post by: NAH on April 24, 2003, 08:56:30 pm
I just bought a 21" Kds monitor from bizsyscom.com like the ones discussed in the buy/sell/trade forum. The monitor is 20" viewable. How close can the monitor be to the bezel without being too close. Here are a few pictures of my cab design. I drew where the monitor would sit. I measured it out and there would be about 1/2" to 1" of room with the monitor all the way back. I could remove the monitor from its metal casing, but it would be easier to leave it in there.

Right up against the glass is just fine. Monitors vent their heat out the back, and not the front, so front clearance is no issue.

I wasn't worried about heat, I just didn't know if this would be too close to look at. I've read some posts about it being annoying not being able to see the whole screen and stuff like that. I guess it really doesn't matter... just stand back :)

Your panel looks large enough where it shouldn't be a problem. What is annoying is anything larger than a 19-21" only a few inches away from your eyes. But yours should be fine at that angle, size and distance.

I don't think this will fit the way you have it drawn.  I did a similar thing when planning my cabinet and my cabinet ended up being too shallow.

The "thickness" of my happ bezel for a 27" monitor is approximately 3".  So you might want to plan for a few inches of foreward and backward movement of your monitor to allow it to fit with a bezel.

Though the tube does curve back a big to accomodate the bezel's shape.  His model might just be based on the deepest measurement from the center of the tube to the back, and doesn't take into account the curvature of the tube.
Of course, the best way is just to try it out.....I planned and planned and planned my monitor shelf/bezel/etc and in the end had to just eyeball everything  :)
