(I don't get why they need to physically destroy those machines. Why not rip out the circuit boards and anything else that makes them a "gambling device"???????) Crushing candy cabs with their monitors????? WHY?!
-
Damn, what a waste...
-
:o
omfg
:hissy:
-
sad. they could grab some boot leg pacman boards and toss those machines into orphanages or something more useful. poor candy cabs
-
All I will say is that where ever you live, it is good to get to know the gaming commissioner ;)
11 CGA/VGA monitors...free...'nuff said
-
Who cares? That's in China - there's probably not one actual original licensed cab there, most likely all pirate bootlegged generic crap...
-
I just thought this one was funny from that link. Who's the authority figure there? ;D

The British are the ones with the funny hats ;D
RE: Cabs... :'(

That's alot of matches.
Looks like they were all bootlegs with no sideart, etc.
-
They do this because it makes for a better video/sound bite or photo. Just like when the provincial government here crushed a few 'street racing' vehicles up here. It doesn't matter that there are scads more going unnoticed, or that a metric buttload of material is going to waste. The pols look like they're being effective.

Here is the fun part, look closer at the pictures, the valuable bits have already been salvaged out of most of those machines. All of wooden machines appear to have been stripped, as have about half of those Candy cabinets.

well spotted. i would say the only reason any parts have been stripped out is for recycling. its doubtful that any pcbs are going to make their way back into circulation since it needs a cab to be in. i cant see anyone doing that, except one or two filched pcbs by individuals. the reason the monitors havent been pulled out is just ignorance or laziness id say. if youve confiscated stuff, it didnt cost you anything so it hardly matters what is wasted. there is a large market for recycled metals from electronics in china and it cost cents per hour to do. the monitors need someone savvy enough to sell them in a secondary market (it probably does happen or will soon enough). the metals etc from recycling already have a well established market.
probably once the cabs have been crushed they will be sorted into other recyclables like wood and plastic. again for cents an hour.

Don't worry, those cabs may be smashed and ground up, but they'll go to good use as pet food filler or stuffing for kids toys from Wal Mart.

Hey, I see Waldo!!!

for some reason i thought candy cabs were never bootleg. wood cabs with no graphics and stuff i can understand its quick and fast and cheap. it seems like more trouble to bootleg a candy cab. obviously im wrong since there is a huge pile there.
-
Doesn't anyone else look at that photo and think "those could have been MAME'd!" ?
-
What I notice in that photo is that 'blue' is a universally over-used color for arcade machines and not just in the BYOAC community. :)
-
75 brazillion Chinese people can't be wrong.

More cowbell?

Ship those candy cabs over here! Americans will buy your garbage china!

Ain't that the truth!

The Chinese are weird man, why on earth destroy a card table?
I'm betting that all those candy cabs will be removed and reused as I don't see a single one destroyed and the ones I do see are all nicely stacked upright even the one on its own in the top left corner.
-
I bet if you look in the right part of a landfill in any country you can find plenty of reasons to call everybody weird. So much stuff gets tossed out every day that somebody else would find perfectly useful it is disgusting. I do it myself but that's different I can't use the stuff I toss out, what drives me crazy is knowing that somebody else is tossing out stuff I CAN use. What the hell are they thinking? Don't they know I want that crap?
-
Looks like the monitors and all important stuff have been removed already
Knowing Chinese mentality and corruption, probably most of the monitors, PCB's and other parts have been ripped out of the cabs and sold to other builders of pirate cabs :P
The only thing I feel sorry for are the candy's, but notice that these are the furthest away from the machine wracking them.....They could get good money from it.

if it makes you feel better, I painted my Pengo Cabinet Black

Eh, anything remotely usable I throw up on craigslist for free or dirt cheap.
Though, it is true, so much stuff gets thrown away it's amazing. I've never been a dumpster diver myself but I have a few friends who have been _very_ successful with it.

Sadly, we already do this way too much...
-
Thing is i imagine there is no market for those cabs over there. Shipping costs to the U.S. probably make it not worth while hence it's easier to scrap them. It's like when the arcade boom time was over in the U.K. machines were just skipped because there was no market for old cabs as there were so many being disposed of daily to make way for newer cabs. It was cheaper to skip them than store them to try and sell on...I got offered an original working space invaders cab for £25 around 1992 but i had no trasport so the guy just skipped it, no one wanted it. The majority of chinese don't have many luxuries and i can't see a mame cab being on the list. It is sad but thats the way it is.

I am really confused. How did they get a computer, get online, and produce their own website?
I wonder if they understand the word hypocritical.
Also, the pics above aren't as depressing as the vids from the 20's during prohibition. All that Jack just dumped out.

From a dumpster... :D

The computer shop I work for gets dumpster divers all the time. Not sure why since anything I'd consider useful goes straight to a recycler but oh well.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be fun as hell to be in the driver's seat of that excavator? >:D
-
NOT... ;D :o
