Title: Racing lowboy. Is there such a beast?
Post by: hbm*rais on July 18, 2007, 04:05:11 pm
Not having the space for multiple cabinets, sometimes I contemplate the possibility of doing extra CP's to my lowboy. Maybe an all-inclusive one player CP, things like that.

Chief among these crazy ideas is the possibility of a racing set up.

So, my question is: Was there ever such a thing as a racing lowboy? Do you have a picture of one? Did you ever played on one?

I've never heard of such a thing, but after seeing racing cabarets and racing cocktails, I believe in anything.

If racing lowboys exist, any information (specially pictures) would be greatly appreciated

Speed Race and Death Race come immediately to mind. There were more, but those two stick in my head.

Thanks Cheffo,

But I actually meant a more "traditional" lowboy (like mine one).

What I want to know is if any company ever took a regular Aussie lowboy, the ones that were used for fighters, shmups and stuff, and stuck a steering wheel and some pedals in it and made it into a generic racer.

Yes they did, but it wasn't all that common, and the implementation will vary. Try going to the klov.com forums and talking to jeff. He will probably have one or two of them in his storage buildings and be able to show you some pictures.

Sega's original Monaco GP wasn't that far off. THE FLYER (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=thumbs&db=videodb&id=2809) has the dimensions.

I wouldn't think it'd be that hard to implement. There'd probably have to be some type of base to change the angle of the wheel or it might block your view of the screen. Adding a pedal should also be a pretty simple addition.

I have played one of those in person (Sega Turbo was also available like that). It isn't bad at all, although they are really light and will tip over easily.
