Title: Lynx emulation and MAMEWAH problem!
Post by: Turnarcades on July 15, 2007, 01:17:56 pm
I'm currently trying to setup a Lynx emulator for use with MAMEWAH, but unfortunately I'm having trouble running the best emulator (Handy) with the frontend.

I am trying to get decent emulation from low-end PC's and as a result am limitedin the choice of emulators. I moved from Magic Engine to Hu-Go for the PC Engine as Magic Engine depends on 3d graphics cards to run. Si,ilarly I have used mednafen for Lynx emulation, but it's performance is dreadful on low-end PC's.

Handy is supposedly the best emulator for the job, and I have used both the regular 0.95 version and the 'Esc key hacked' version 0.90 which run great, but only when using it in Windows. For some reason when I try to launch it from MAMEWAH, the screen blacks out, and cannot be exited - more like a fatal error than a problem with emulation.

Can anyone help or suggest an alternative?

Replace {nodosbox} with {dosbox}

How did you get hugo working. I've tried many times without success.

If you need help on any other emulators let me know I'm currently putting the last touches on a 400mhz pc. I've had pretty good success running most emus full speed with no frameskip. What hardware are you using?

Nice one Gonzo, I will give it a shot and see if this works. I have borrowed from other people's .ini files so maybe I just completely missed this on this particular emu.

My spec isn't particularly low, but I use PC's just above baseline to ensure good gameplay even on 'advanced' 2d games like Metal Slug and Neo-Geo games.
Generally this is P3 700-900Mhz, 128mb RAM with 20Gb hard drives. Some people go way over what is actually required, but I've found this to be brilliant for my needs. Generally I use re-claimed office desktop PC's with decent on-board graphics and sound, which are perfect if you set up the software correctly.

If it helps, here is my Hu-go config file for you to borrow from....

This is using the Windows version of Hugo and integrated gtk interface, which is essential. Google for it, as it is in several places bundled together as a complete installation package.

Oh nice one for the help - just got it running sweet now!
Shame Handy doesn't have the nice interpolation filter Mednafen has, but hey at least it runs games at a decent speed on a P3!

Have you tried running Turbo Duo games?

I run NeoGeo games full speed. I just use winkawaks. It gives you the option of saving decrypted C's. That way it loads some games faster.
