Soooooo,
I'm not normally a visitor to this section of the forum, so pardon me if I'm asking for info that's already readily available (or I have trouble expressing myself :-[ ).
I have an Nvidia GeForce4 MX 4000 PCI graphics card installed into a Gateway P4 desktop with crappy onboard video. The card has S-video out, in addition to the standard VGA and it claims to be able to output to a television. I just happen to be borrowing a JVC TV with an S-video port.
I have an S-video to RCA convertor, which I had used before with my laptop at Friend's houses, etc, but you lose a lot of quality with the conversion, so I was hoping to send the video signal over to the Television and have two separate desktops, one for work and one for movies and games.
I bought a new 6 ft. gold-plated S-video cable from Wally World and have been trying for the last two days to get this thing to identify that I have the cable plugged into the back of the TV. The TV is on and the S-video cable functions, since I have connected the TV to the laptop, which was broken, but magically started working again today.
I have tested the graphics card with a Sony PS One LCD screen, which also works with the laptop, with the S-video to RCA convertor, and it won't recognize that, either.
Basically, I go to the display configuration in the Nvidia control panel and it only gives me the option to run one monitor. It claims to be able to do a "rigorous display detection" and then immediately says that some TV's do not send out the proper signals to be detected, or something like that, and would I like to turn on TV capability. I say yes, and have tried again and restarted numerous times. I also have unistalled and reinstalled the forceware (what a name, by the way :dunno ) drivers, which seem to be correct for this card.
I have been googling like mad and can find very little info about this problem. I hope it's a setting issue, since I got this card in December 2006 and didn't register it for the warranty. Also, it really seems to work well in every other way.
I know this is a lot of words and not a lot of tech info., but I wonder if anyone here has had any issues with this type of graphics card and could give me a clue.
If anyone could save me a day on the phone with Nvidia tech support, I would :notworthy: to you.
