Title: Picture rolling problem
Post by: Apollo on July 09, 2007, 11:55:04 pm
I have just installed my new tube and monitor and am having problems with certain games rolling. Most games seem ok but all the Street Fighter games and Centipede are rolling down the screen (I haven't tried all games so I'm guessing there will be a few more). Any ideas on how I would go about fixing this? I know I can adjust the vertical hold but won't this then make games that are ok roll?
I'm using ArcadeVGA card with video amp and a 26" low res arcade monitor.

Thank you

Different games use different sync rates.  When a cabinet is set up the monitor is adjusted for that one game (because most cabs only have one game in it).

Mame breaks that mold.  Because it duplicates the original game, it duplicates the sync rate as well.  Since this can vary from game to game, one game will not roll, but another game will.

You can force Mame to output at the same sync rate.  I forget where it is in mame.ini, but if you do a line-by-line it should jump out.

Great, thanks Peale I'll give that a go. Are there any negative side effects of doing this that I should be aware of?

There are, but I forget what they are.
