Title: FREE: Wells Gardner 25" Monitor, broken, Lexington, KY
Post by: Jack Burton on July 07, 2007, 12:44:21 am
I have a dedicated Super Chase cabinet that has been sitting in my living room for about a year.  An old roommate was going to convert it to MAME, but broke the monitor when he sent too high of a signal to it by directly connecting his computer to it.  People have told me that it needs the flyback replaced.

I'm just going to mount a computer monitor that can do 15khz in it since I have one.  But first I need to get the old monitor out.  I don't have anywhere to put it, and I can't very well set it into the trash, and I don't want to mess with discharging it since I've never done that.

I don't think there's that much really wrong with it, but it's free to anybody that wants to come and remove it for me.   I'll try to get pics/model # when I get back to my apartment in a couple of days.

PM me if you're interested.

Connecting too high of a signal won't blow a flyback.

I've read your other thread, have you considered just fixing this monitor?  K7000 are good monitors.

Upon closer inspection I think I've found the true cause.

He has connected the molex power connector on the back of the monitor to a cut off extension cord.  He plugged this directly into the wall without going through a power supply.

He told me it made a very high pitched whine then a loud pop before he jerked the connector back out.  I've only been told by other people that this means that the flyback is broken, I personally don't know what it would do to a monitor to send a too high signal.

Also, this isn't the monitor that is in the other thread.

I actually have two broken arade monitors in two different places.    :(

I have considered fixing it, but don't consider myself adept enough to solder new pieces to the motherboard without breaking it.

Ouch.  Running one of those without an isolation transformer isn't good.
