Title: FTP Server
Post by: (+_+) on July 04, 2007, 08:54:29 am
Can someone please try accessing my FTP server. It works for me at home on my laptop, but I have a feeling it is being blocked from outside of my network.

IP: 192.168.2.10 or 192.168.10.2
Port: 21
Login: upload
Password: upload

Rules: No Leeching  ;)

Thanks
Marc.

The 192.168 subnet is a "local network" system. If you want people to test your ftp server you need to get the external ip of your modem. Lots of places like this one do (http://www.lawrencegoetz.com/programs/ipinfo/) that.

edit: do you know what NAT (Network Address Translation) is? If so, then 192.168 is just like 10.0.0. If not, um, yeah, probably a couple of minutes reading some wiki pages will make future requests like this a bit easier.

And now that you reminded me. I knew that and I'm an idiot for not recalling it.  :-[ :-[

Thanks jbox. And by the way your friggen avator really side tracks me while reading through the various threads. Hence, I like it.

Yes, I too am often inspired by the deeply moral lesson the FSF tries to communicate to each and every one of us through the GPL.  ;D

If your running this from home, and you control the NAT interface (i.e router by linksys, netgear, etc.) you'll be wanting to do a port forward to forward port 21 from the outside real IP interface to the internal IP address.

I've noticed the ISP's lately giving out broadband modems that do the NAT without a real way to access your real IP address. I guess it's their attempt to enforce only 1 computer per connection.
