So...whats the program everyone uses to download cover art?
I've done some searching, and everything is pointing to a dead link. Any new stuff out that works well? I'd love to have it automated (auto-reads artist/album and downloads files)
thanks!

I use some custom perl scripts to hit against amazon. I think I got about 80% that way. Then a couple beers, some loud music, google and a couple hours got most of the rest. I think I only need to physically scan < 10 covers out of 550 or so.

walmart.com is another good place to find decent covers. Of couse its not automated as you requested.

I downloaded all my album covers manually. Walmart is a great site for the larger album art. For the more obscure albums, I would recommend Amazon.

No matter what software you use you will need to sort some out manually.

See barcrest's comments. You can automate the process to about 80-90%, but you'll have to sift through NIVO's links to find those last few covers this program doesn't find. You'll also want to double-check the automation, since the program is only as good as the results it finds (which can be sketchy or point to an album by a completely different artist)

Site seems to be up and down, but it's one of the best I've found. I've got the .exe, but it's too large to zip and attach here.
Another that's also been recommended by others I know is this one:

That first link you posted was the "dead link" i was talkin about. that's the one ive used in the past, and i loved it.
but, since the site is down, i cannot get the file.
Anyone have it, that could email it to me?

Shoot me your e-mail addy in a PM and I'll throw it your way.

You can also use the Internet Archive to pull up old dead links:

Additional sites I use when having to resort to a manual search
http://www.albumart.org/
http://www.buy.com
http://www.audiolunchbox.com/
http://payplay.fm/

http://www.allmusic.com
has info on almost every artist and had 99.9% of the album covers.
It's good for finishing up what you can't do with your automated tools.

When all else fails I go to ebay and use a screen capture utility to clip out an album cover. That's faster than getting out a camera and snapping a picture of the cover.
Most of my collection is LP's, not CD's.
