Hi. I am new to mame... I recently started a cab all hand built (if you want pictures ask) I am going for the dance dance revolution look
I am using an ipac 2 with 8 illuminated pushbuttons by happ (numbers 71-0004-T5, 57-0004-53, 57-0004-40,and 57-0004-41) I was wondering how i would make them light up? thanks

I haven't used Happ's light-up buttons, but looking at the pictures, there are metal connectors on the sides of the microswitch assembly. The connectors in the back are for connecting the actual button, so the ones on the sides must be for giving power to the lamp; one side will be ground, the other power. You can hook up those connectors to the power connectors within the computer - the molex connectors with 4 wires. Of those 4 wires, the outer two are power (positive): orange is 5v and yellow is 12v, and the middle two wires are ground (negative). Which outer-wire you hook the light up to of course depends on the light voltage (I see Happ has both 6v and 12v LED's).

i am pretty sure i have the 12s... I have no idea what i need to do... is there a website that will tell me how to wire up the molex? like what kind of wire do i need? etc?

That's pretty cool looking. Where'd you get those speakers?

I still gotta build the dance pads
btw what is a good graphics card to buy? AGP

Well first you have to find out what kind of Video Card your motherboard supports. If its a really old PC it might only work with a PCI video card. Later versions came with AGP slots. After that they now use PCI-E cards. None are interchangeable meaning you can't buy an AGP video card for a PCI-E motherboard and vice versa.
Depending on your computer, it might already have a built in a video card that is perhaps suitable enough to run MAME on. What's your PC?

Radio Shack sells the connector pins that hook up to those (in a drawer, other drawers generally have different connectors and switches and stuff), you can crimp or solder the wires to them. Any wire will do - heck, if you wanted to just test it you could even stuff a wire with a bare end into the two holes and then plug in the computer and turn it on. Just make sure you don't get the polarity wrong (positive goes to the yellow wire, negative to the middle wire (usually black), and that the wire only touches the one hole.

its an older one Compaq p2 40gb hdd, 384 ram. it has an agp slot... I need a card that outputs to TV i dont want to spend alot hopefully less than $80 but if i HAVE too i will spend more... I am upgrading the ram a little bit more (up to 512) and adding 2.0 usb slots

I suppose it can be good enough to run MAME on. But personally I wouldn't run MAME on it for the higher end games like Marvel Vs Capcom. I'm going to run MAME on my old PC a P4 3.0Ghz with 1GB of memory and a All-In-Wonder 9800 SE video card with 128MB of ram.

I don't understand your question: there aren't different kinds of wire. There are different thicknesses, but the thickness to use is pretty obvious when you see the molex connector, anything smaller than that will work.

links to the connectors?
