Title: Pricing out an empty cabinet
Post by: Zeno on June 27, 2007, 03:14:44 pm
Alright folks, I need your advice on this...

I have an empty NBA Jam cabinet that is fully gutted and ready to paint/laminate
I added casters to the bottom and laminated the front panel and speaker area.
No cab damage

Amy I asking to much for this at $150?  I spent $50 on it (not including the work done, gas to and from it's location, and the lunch I owed my coworker for helping me haul it home).

Sidenote... I know that not all empty cabs are created equal.  Any rough pricing on these designs/styles

William cab 27" (just like mine)
Dynamo cab
Pac style cab
Nintendo cab
Z backs

$150 is a lot for any of the areas I have been in. Either St. Louis or Alexandria, VA. I would think $50 -$75 and thats more than I would spend, but someone might pay it.

$150 is too much for a stripped cabinet of almost any type.

Fair enough.  Do you think I can strip out the coin door and still maintain the $50-$75 price-tag?

I think so.  $50 for a solid cab is a reasonable price, especially a four player cab that so many people think are great MAME candidates.  You can try $75 but accept a $50 offer, which is what I would probably do.

I stipulated that depending on your market - you may be able to price it out for more. Where I live, I have had pretty good access to cabinets.

If you were outside of the country, or in an area with higher demand, you could fetch a higher price.

I definitely agree that location will affect it, but in general I'd agree that $150 is just way too much.  Here in Jersey, you definitely won't get $150 for an empty cab.  $50-75 would be more likely
