can anyone tell me if this is a good mame monitor i have tv componet now but looking for something better
-
These are awesome monitors. They will accept a normal VGA connector or RGBHV (BNC type) and will do CGA at 15KHz and go all the way up to 1024x768 resolution.
They are boxy so you would have to build a cabinet around it. I will not fit in any normal arcade cabinet, because they are basically a 26"x20"x20" box with practically no bevels.
I built a cab for a buddy of mine and I installed one of these. I had to make it about 4.5 in deeper than a standard 25" monitor cab (Mortal Kombat/Midway type cab). It came out great, but the cabinet was an absolute BEAR!!!
I pick them up pretty cheap locally. They are a great tool to have if you are experimenting with different arcade resolutions. You can switch back an forth between arcade and PC resolutions at will.

thanks for the info but will the games be arcade perfect with the arcade vga
-
Yes, the monitor will accept 15KHz, 25KHz, 31KHz or what ever to produce the correct resolution for each game, as long as you have your MAME and ArcadeVGA settings right.
The NEC Multisync XM29 Plus is basically a very high-end arcade and PC monitor.
If you possibly can, check out the monitor before you buy it, play with the controls, display some games on it. Some of the monitors I have gotten suffer from geometry or convergence problems. These issues are usually only noticeable in Windows or what ever. When displaying the games, the are much less noticeable. But that may be the case with a lot of big CRT monitors, even brand new arcade monitors that you buy from WG, Billabs, or whatever.

thanks off to purchase it hope it don't get damaged during shipping
-
anyone got any pictures of any games running on this monitor
-
I can take some pics of mine when I get home tonight. What games are you interested in seeing?
Are you installing in a cabinet or just using it on your desktop?
How much are you spending for this? Shipping will be expensive, these things weigh over 100 Lbs. (50Kg)...
-
the whole thing is going to cost 350.00 i think it will be more reliable than a arcade monitor games i like are pac man mrs pac mario bros I'm going to build a cabinet for it
-
Dude, you might wait. You can find these on ebay including the shipping for less.
-
too late already purchased it
-
One thing to keep in mind, if you mount the NEC monitor in a cabinet Horizontally, the horizontal games like Mario Bros will play arcade perfect. For Vertical games like DK and PacMan, it will still display in 15Khz, but rotated, so technically it is not arcade perfect, but it will still look very impressive.
I will take some pics of those games tonight. I don't have an Arcade VGA, but I have been using Soft15KHz and getting good results.
-
thanks for all the info and the quick response
-
350 is a bit pricey but if it's being shipped I can easily see that.
Yeah, the Mitsubishi monitors are great for PC and MAME use. AVGA may be a bit hard to fathom because scanlines really stand out but still very authentic. And if you lessen the focus a bit, then that problem goes away. Have fun with it.

Hey, I took some pics of Pole Position running at 256x240 on my NEC XM29 Plus. Difficult to get good shots but believe me, it looks impressive... it just hard to capture that with a camera.
I will try to capture some more games later.

Mo pics...

Ms Pac running at 384x288 using Soft15KHz and a Diamond Radeon 7000 PCI.
Had to get in close and at an angle to capture the scan lines.
