The Japanese have a median download speed of 61 megabits per second? :o
-
I am doubting the numbers in this article ... 7Mbits as the median for Canada ?
Not so long as Zakk is flooding the Innernets with DHCP requests. :P
I get (reliable and consistent) 4MBits at home and am far and away at the high end of people (consumers) I know (100MBit at the office shouldn't count). I am (im)patiently waiting for my 12Mbit fibre.
Cheers.

My dial up at home is free. I do most of my surfing at work, I'm not sure what it is, but it's fast enough. The three times a year I use the dial up is when I'm expecting an important email on the weekend.
I'd like to see what people are paying on average for services around the world.

I pay NZ$79.95/month (US$60) for 15Gb of data at about 1.7 Mb/s downstream and 0.6 Mb's upstream, this includes a free static IP. We possibly have the worst ADSL service in the world.
-
I pay US$22.95 for unlimited data at 300k/3MB. Once they finish the current round of upgrades, I'll be getting 600k/6MB for $29.95 or so.

Wow, I can't believe you're complaining?!? How much faster do you think *you* can get the sheep to swim eh Mr Smartypants?!? ;D

C$50 for 4MBit down 1MBit up unlimited, but both the pricing and the unlimited aren't available to new subscribers -- I was an early adopter and ended up having my terms grandfathered.
That'll end on my next upgrade where I expect about C$100 for 12MBit down 1MBit up (WTF!?!).
-
$30 a month for 10MBit down, 2MBit Up unlimited - and I can spend more to get more, but why bother? My company reimburses me for up to $35 a month, so that's where I stay: free!
Love the FIOS..
:P

How "unlimited" really are these "unlimited" plans? With 10Mb download speed you should be able to do a couple of hundred gigs in a month, and the ISP *really* isn't going to come around to your house with a baseball bat? ???
-
$149.95 a month for 4mbs connection and digital cable with all the movie channels.

not as "unlimited" as they lead you to believe. I got flagged for "abuse" one month for having 300gigs of download traffic. I'm on probation and one more month of "too high usage" or "abuse" and I get kicked. This is comcast cablemodem.

I burn about 200Gb a month and my provider has never blinked about it.

That's what I love about competition: Time Warner cable is losing people all over to FIOS in my neighborhood. They will just stop short of kissing your behind to keep you as a customer. When I cancelled them I got all kinds of offers to stay or come back...
As far as FIOS, they want to burn cable and take as many subscribers away. I personally do about 100GB a month easy, and my wife loves to leave QVC streaming video running on her pc pretty much at all times, which must use a decent amount of bandwidth as well. All this, and not so much as a peep from Verizon...

Trust me, I was blown away when I got a call from the Comcast Network Fraud and Abuse department :scared
I probably average 200gigs of download traffic a month, but had a spike that month that led to the flagging. They said I was in the top 1% of traffic nationwide for that month....I guess I should feel special ;D

You must have the largest porn collection in the world!
Seriously, I can't even fathom downloading 300 gb of stuff in one month, much less AVERAGING 200 gb every month. What do you do with all that stuff, because it is obvious there aren't enough hours in the day to watch/listen/play all of it. I'd flag you too!

I work from home, as well as host some prototype web systems from my home network, so I get a LOT of in/out traffic ust from that. Add to that, downloading from a MSDN subscription and some usenet usage, and 200gigs is easy to hit. The month I hit 300gigs I was out of town for a few weeks and setup to download a bunch of MSDN updates....about 100gigs just in that shot.
And nope, my pRon collection is meager...I don't think I have anything stored on my home network. :dunno

If you let them know why you have that much bandwidth, they'll probably make you get a business account.

Yep, but I go back to work at a "real" job starting next week, so it will be a non-issue for the most part starting then.
