Hey guys, I just have a quick question.
I want to take the monitor out of this old SVC Chaos machine and sell it, but it has a problem. On the left side, there are 3 or 4 vertical bars where the image is dim. From what I've read, it seems that a cap kit would probably fix this. I'm looking to get rid of this monitor, but I'd like to know, would it be worth significantly more if I fixed than if I didn't? Also, about what could I sell the monitor for? It is a 25".

I have no idea how much money or work goes into the cap kit, but speaking strictly from a layman who would consider buying a monitor, I would never buy one that was broken or had something wrong with it. So to that end I think you'd at least reach a wider audience of buyers by repairing it first. Like I said though, I'm new to this whole scene so take all of that with a grain of salt.

I'd say if it's working other than needing a cap kit, the difference is only like $25. A cap kit doesn't cost much and takes from a half hour to an hour depending on monitor and efficiency of the worker.

Depends on who you are selling it to really. If you are selling to a knowledgable buyer, it won't change much. If you are selling to a person who has no clue about monitors, being able to say "works 100%, crystal clear picture" is worth a good amount more than "has issues".

If he's asking the question, though, he can't confidently say a cap kit will fix it. That knowledge issue goes both ways. Premium price includes credibility of the seller's skills.

depends on the monitor type whether a cap is faulty causing that problem,the same fault on a hantarex polo 1 is caused by r36 on the neck card and that would cost a few pennies and a few minutes to fix,so that would be totally worthwhile.
only a person with a bit of electronics knowledge is gonna buy a faulty monitor so you won't get a premium price
certain monitors seem to go for more money than others so a make and model would help with pricing

I picked up a Donkey Kong cabinet for under $300 because the monitor looked like this:

After a new cap kit, it looked like this:

Since the new cap kit, I've had a couple of people make offers of over $500 for the cabinet (NOT FOR SALE). The few bucks I spent on the cap kit nearly doubled the value of the package. People pay for convenience as much as condition. It might only be a cap kit issue with your monitor, but there are TONS of people that would rather not have to find out and they'd pay plenty more to just avoid having to worry about it. If you want to sell it, I'd cap it and see if that fixes things up. If not, you're only out a few bucks and you can claim that the caps have been changed. You'll still be selling to the same market, but on their end they can already rule out caps as the issue.

Also, I want to sell the rest of the parts from the arcade. The game is SVC Chaos, and it comes with the board, the power supply, the marquee, and the little sheets that have the moves. I know this is totally the wrong forum and this is kind of the easy way out, but what do you guys think I could get for this? Is anyone out there interested?

Post the parts in the BST thread asking for offers. There is a svc chaos kit with bidding @ $50 on ebay. Looking at previous auctions, it appears just the jamma board and instruction cards sells for around $60.
Anyways, after seeing your picture it looks like you may want to try a manual degauss.

Judging from the picture, does everyone here think cap kit for the monitor? I have a monitor with lines like that and they're present regardless of the signal fed to it. Other than that, and colors being a bit pinkish, it's tops.

I would try a manual degauss before a cap kit, but in sales listings people like seeing "I just installed a new cap kit on the monitor" because it makes them feel that the monitor has been taken care of and is coming from somebody with at least a shred of credibility.
My DK has a itsy bitsy color issue if I rotate the cabinet 90 degrees to the left or right. It has to be facing either south or north to look perfect. Maybe this monitor needs to be facing a certain direction as well...(though a manual degauss would clear that up too).
