Hi,
I recently came into possession of an orginal Defender machine.
So last night I pulled off the back. made sure there was no glaring problems and plugged it in.
After a bit of reseating and reflowing of solder on the Power supply I got all 3 LED's on that to come on and give a good output.
Now on the ROM board the 4 LED's come on an stay on. So I pulled that out and reseated the roms.
Put it back in and now when I power up the 4 LED's flash on and off and I get the following picture on the monitor (see attached photo).
My questions are, I thought I read that the 4 ROM LED's were suppose to flash twice on power-up is this the case?
Does anyone know from the picture what might be the actual problem. when I get a chance I will wire it up to another monitor to check that.
Regards
Steve

IIRC, on Defender there is a secondary test menu that you need to enter. I can't recall right now how to get into that menu, but my recollection is that a two-blink on all 4 LEDs was a pass and that notihg remaining lit was a ROM error.
Williams had decent test menus -- I would try those first (I don't have a manual handy, but you can find them from the Restoration links in the wiki).
Cheers

Wow great resource.
Unfortunatley work commitments are limiting my time. I'll have a look tomorrow and get some power readings.
Thanks

OK had a quick look last night.
When I turned it on and wiggled the ribbon cable between the main board and the Rom board I got different LEDs to light up. So I pulled the cables and reseated it and reflowed the solder under the connection. Put it back in and now I get LEd lights 1 & 2 flash on and off, on for a second off for 5 secs. I thought they were suppose to be o constantly. I am wondering if there is a probelm with the reset circuit.
I measured the voltage on the power supply output and the +5v is reading +4.9v which I assume is OK, However the +12v ir reading +15v!!! so thats not Ok.
I ordered and PS rebuild kit so I'll try that once it gets here.

If that's the unregulated +12v, that should be ok...
