Looks like hell froze over. If you go to the nebula homepage there is a fairly playable cps3 emulator! From what I understand cps3 games should be fairly playable in mame as well by .117!!
-
Good news for sure, but I bet a lot of mainstream Mamers excitment will be tempered when they hear there are only 3 games under CPS3.
Still, SF3! YAY!
-
Actually there are about 8.
sfiii
sfiii 2
sfiii 3
jojo
jojo 2
warzard/red earth
And I'm thinking a couple random games that aren't emulated yet. It's not so much quality as quantity. Sfiii, in particular is probably the pinnacle of 2d fighting games. More importantly, this is one of those systems that a lot of mame devs said "oh it'll never happen" so it's one more step towards completeness.
-
Darn it, I am going to have to upgrade my PC now. The SF series is one of my favorites. What are the other games like?

They are all street-fighter-like games. Nothing horribly remarkable, but all fun to play. Warzard/Red Earth is particularly interesting. It's pretty much the only capcom fighter that didn't get a million sequels, and thus it's fairly rare. I think it was only ported to the DC (and badly at that). Think darkstalkers only wierder (if that's even possible).
You shouldn't have to upgrade your pc though. Cps3 shouldn't tax a pc that much more than cps2 afaik.

I am at the max right now with SFAZ. Don't even talk about the CHD games. I've been afraid to try those. My PC is an older P4 1.5ghz in think, with 512mb ram. The biggest hurdles right now are the cost and getting the OK from the boss (aka wife unit). I'd like to get a mid range dual core with at least 2gb of ram and a 3-500gb HD. I just priced out a Dell through work and after customizations it comes to $1,212 including discounts. I just can't afford what I want.

Forget a whole PC, go after the key components, MB, CPU, RAM and GPU. Unless you're jumping major generation gaps, such as changing PSU connectors or going from PATA to SATA, everything else can be repurposed and reused. It's MAME, I doubt you're going to need a 10,000 RPM drive or the latest generation GPU or Gigabit network controller.
Edit: NVM, I didn't notice you wanted a higher capacity drive.

messin with this today and came up with 2 screen collages just for folks who'd like to see some ingame screenies.
A bit big to show, so heres a linky with rared up screens

Wait, what?!?!?!?!
(sorry, my head just exploded)
I have to check this out. I'll be right back.
EDIT: I think that was the first time I ever played Red Earth. This is amazing? Are there any details yet to how they pulled this off and got past the encryption?
-
What about Marvel Vs Capcom 2? Is that also a CPS3 game?

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was a Naomi game.

Yes, same guys who pulled off the cps2 "proper" decryption - (Mainly a spanish chap called Andy and Mame's original author Nicola)
They blogged all the cps2 progress, and carried right on for cp3:
http://andreasnaive.blogspot.com/ (in spanish) or translated by google

although I'll be impressed if you anyone can follow the math...

Naomi? What does that mean in terms of getting MvsC2 on MAME?

A few years wait.

I had to look it up myself...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jojo%27s_Bizarre_Adventure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jojo%27s_Bizarre_Adventure)
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険, Jojo no Kimyōna Bōken?, alternatively translated as JoJo's Venture) is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It is famous for its original art style (complete with over-the-top violence), intricate plot, and numerous Western rock music references. Every main character's name in each series can be read as JoJo....
.... Later, two fighting games were also adapted from series 3 by Capcom, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (a.k.a. JoJo's Venture) and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future, both in 1999. The success of the fighting games is one of the factors that led to the series' growing popularity in North America.

What type of system are you running this on?
-
ive got a ---smurfy--- old gateway with a pentium 4 2ghz processor and 512kb of RAM. The damn thing is haunted and likes to start problems for no reason :dunno
-
512kb of RAM.
kb's, huh? Amazing... I could have used a lesson in RAM efficiency when I was buying a 4mb upgrade just to play Doom...
;D
-
ayayayay you know what i meant... sure does feel like Kbytes sometimes though
-
yeah, like I said before, cps3 isn't a very powerful system, it should run on about anything.
-
So how long before we can get this into MAME?
-
Umm it's in mame NOW! (as of .116u3)

So does it work? I haven't had a chance to try it out yet...

Indeed it does! Played it in 0.117 and it works beautifully. Apparently, "Video emulation is not 100%," but unless you know exactly what isn't "100%" you probably won't notice. :)
Try the NO-CD version, otherwise you'll need to sit there for ages while it installs itself.

wow....this is awesome news howard! thanks for the update! i agree...sf3 is freakin sweet, and one of my favs if not THE fav sf game.

im having problems getting sf3 to work at all. i downloaded the new mame version 118 and it shows the rom, but it says it cant find the chd file or rom when i hit enter. ive got the rom in the mame\roms folder....and the chd file in its own folder: mame\roms\sfiii3. isnt that all i have to do? this sf3 rom/chd file is from rom set like 111 or something. do i need a new rom set?
-
I would be surprised if the rom or chd did not change in .116 or .117. Might want to compare your rom and chd's filename and size with what is listed here:
http://www.mameworld.net/maws/romset/sfiii3
-
yeah apparently i have an out of date chd file. i have a sfiii.chd and i need a 33s000.chd file to run this. been googling for a while....no luck yet :banghead:
-
okay, finally got it to pull up. only now its "rewriting" and will be for the next 18 minutes. i googled and read that after it does this once, it wont do it again. only problem is, im doing the rewriting on my test pc and not my arcade cab. i read something about moving the nvram file and that should take care of it. is that true?

Yes that’s exactly true. I would save the nvram files from each CPS3 game, after running them once. Each one takes about 20-30mins but at least you only do it once.

Just to get myself clarified, the no-cd version doesn't work in mame, right. BTW, I am just asking and already have the chd version work just fine. Last I tried the no-cd only work in the nebula, right?

I don't know about the Nebula CP3 emulator, I haven't felt the need to try it.
I don't have any CHDs, this is purely the NO-CD version running in MAME v0.118:

Interesting. Definitely need to check it out. Last time I tried with the no-cd and 117, it give me the chd error. Wonder if it's the version of the no-cd I have or 117. Guess once I try it, I'll find out.

Just got SF3 to work and it runs great on my cab's old pc.
