Hi guys!
Let me introduce my self. I leave in Canada and I'm 25 years old. I like video game, movies and bicycle.
OK now my project! I would like to do "deluxe" joystick for selling them after. I know only a guy who do this http://www.byrdo.org/arcade_joysticks.htm (http://www.byrdo.org/arcade_joysticks.htm) . I will be original and don't do exactly the same by the concept will be the same.
I thing will be different: THE PRICE. This guy sell his joysticks at a starting price of 250$... For my part it will be more 150$ for a sanwa one and 130$ for a Happ one.
Also I will not include joystick hack or keyboard encoder. Here I'm not sure.... sell it 40$ more and add a encoder or hack at your choice or let you do it.
I have in my head a ton of new concept, material to use and all. The first I will create will be basic but will have a super finish. After that I will try with more originals projects. I can do custom joystick on demand too.
A question I didn't find the answer: how many buttons? All games how use arcade controller use 6 buttons. Some playstation game use more but I think it's not they not serve. I'm sure for 2d fighting 3d too but not for tekken. How many buttons tekken use?
So tell me if your interest, how many buttons should be the best, if the price is OK and if you like to do your hack your self or if you like to have a plug and play package or a "hack your sell" for less.
have a good day

bah...
Nice 1st post. You may want to go to a non-DIY board.
-
Also...
talk is cheap. Show us your work.
-
Non necessary a non-diy board. Some people want to do it but after try they prefer pay then do it theyself. Some people want to do it only to not have the same as the other. My concept will be like that, I will never done 2 stick with same color, shape and theme. Also, some people are not able to do it with this quality. Look at me I can do this but don't ask me to write a book.
Don't worry i will post picture soon.. I don't know went because I don't have much spare time for now. And I don't want to make a lot of model for now. I can buy a ton of joysticks and buttons and not sell it after.
So soon I will do my first one and show you what can I do.

-
So... how does it work? I send you money and a theme and you'll send me a joystick? You just doing market research?
-
For now I do market research and I work on my first one. After that, if people seen to be interested, I will make a web site to show my creations.
If you see a model but you don't like the color for example. You pay me (I will use paypal) I do the joystick for you and ship at your home. If the joystick I already done is OK for you I will only have to ship it so it will be faster.
I will work on command to. For example, if you want a joystick with the American flag on build with sanwa part and a a keyboard encoder. I can do it.

I just wanted to clarify something here. I assume by joystick you are talking about a custom control panel?
You mean doing the woodwork or what ever material you use?
Also you will be doing the artwork I take it?
If you plan on using quality parts, have impressive artwork, and will customize layouts per customer, then you might have yourself some business.
-
Contrary to what Firehead is saying we do speak English in Canada. ;D
Oops Edit: At least most of us do.
-
That's right green giant it what I wanna do!
LOL yeah sorry I come from Québec .... You know the stupid place where my ancestor says: Hey! Why learning english? Keep our french and don't be understand by the rest of the world! ;)
So soon I will show you my product.

why does the phrase "fat stripper" come to mind with this thread?
-
Looking forward to your first example. If there is anything that sells itself it is a good looking product. I would consider including the encoder in the price as you are mainly looking at people who want plug and play. If they can wire the encoder then they can probably build a control panel.
-
To keep costs down for the encoder, if you do include it, I would recommend using the KeyWiz Eco:
KeyWiz Eco 2 (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=76_80&products_id=200)

All I can say is, don't store the beautiful one of a kind sticks at your uncles warehouse.

I wonder if Firehead is Canadian by way of Nigeria?
I think I might buy one - I'm must waiting for the 20 million dollars that is supposed to be deposited in my bank account by that poor African girl who's father, the King, was murdered in a bloody coup.
-
I already know the keywiz Havok. I think it will be my default encoder. Not so pricy, work great and fast to connect.
And for the other post... I don,t understand the think about Canada and Nigeria..... anyway the post is not about where I come from but about joystick.

Another question: Can I put character of video game I draw myself or I need the right??? In the link I give you in the first post the guy use video game and anime character so I don't think it will be a problem right?

If you are looking at selling these to other BYOAC members, then I doubt nintendo will track you down. If you are looking at a huge business globally, then you will need to check with a lawyer.
-
And for the other post... I don,t understand the think about Canada and Nigeria..... anyway the post is not about where I come from but about joystick.
I think that people are suggesting caution in dealing with someone with no post history and apparently limited background in the subject matter.

Wow!
You guys are really being hard on FireHead!
Granted, the Quebec English is hard to read, but I didn't read it the same way you guys are.
Seems to me that FireHead wants to create his own modded CP because he sees that the existing solutions out there are overpriced for what you get.
And if it turns out well, he might want to sell copies of it.
People have to start somewhere you know!
He isn't here (at least from what I think I gather) to sell anything now.
(ie, Nigerian scammer)
He just wants our opinion on the best things/options to use to create a kick butt CP...

Alot of people on these boards have a problem with people who only show up to use other peoples research and hard work to make a buck. That's not what this board is about - it is build your OWN arcade controls. Now granted if the guy had been a member for a while, had done some projects, gained some rapport and then decided to try and make some money selling custom CP's, then people would have less of a problem with it - several members on here do just that and sell quality products.
Having said that, I get the feeling firehead is just an excited newb as we all were at some point. So here is some advice - if you want help on here, it is best to ask specific questions. Showing up and the first post you make is " Yo I want to sell some madz arcade controllers. How do I does this homiez?". That along with the poor English just raises too many red flags.
-
While I do think that we may be a little harsh, I don't think that Scottk is entirely right as to FireHead's intentions ... mostly because FireHead has already quoted prices, so it is reasonable to assume that his intention is primarily to sell (rather than do reasearch).
Add to that the fact that he doesn't have an example of what he is planning to sell (it is tough to gauge price before having built one or even having a design) and people start seeing Harpal.
It might be a different matter if he had been around here longer, but we all know that doesn't always work out either (NITEWALKER).
Cheers.
-
Why doesn't everyone just give the poor guy a chance to make a test product. Maybe you can sell it to someone reputable on the forum at a discounted price to test it out. That way everyones fears will be quelled and you can make a few bucks.
If you think about it, you will only be paying a few bucks for service when you subtract arcade parts, wood, and artwork. I had custom artwork done for my arcade that cost me I think $20 and it was worth every penny. Then I still had to get it printed. If he wants to use a cheaper method to produce the panel and art, why not let him.
There is more to this hobby than building a control panel; seems that the most important part is software. Otherwise we all just have really elaborate shelves.
-
I can attest that Firehead's english is definitely French-Canadian, so don't worry about him being Nigerian. It's funny, but I can hear his accent when I read his posts. ;D (I'm french Canadian too, but accent-less)
Salut Firehead. Bienvenue au site, et bonne chance. La plupart du monde ici préfere construire leur mannette eu-memes. Mais si tu montre que les tiens ont une tres haute qualité, bien peut-etre que ca interessera une couple de personnes.

Are you trying to pick me up? Stop hitting on me

well if you are legit, then as a moderator i would welcome you to having friend here at site. In fact, sending me a control panel for reviewing purposes would much be liked. Then I can show folks you are in fact legitimate. If not...... :blah: :blah:
ok let me amend this. no need to send a panel, although it would be great publicity for a review and front page news. Just show us some pictures of a working panel, include construction phase, parts list etc etc. Quality items will practically sell themselves in any market, given the need for said items, cost effectiveness, construction, durability, etc etc. Dont be shyed away by constructive criticism. We always welcome new vendors, but are wary of scammers, and those folks are quickly shown the door. Game On!

Don't mind him. Drew often mistakes physical abuse for affection.

You should run your stuff past StankMoeCraig. He can't help but tell you what's funny or not, and believes himself to be the ultimate arbiter of funny. He'd prolly tell you it seems like you're forcing it now.
-
Hey what's mather? I came here to know if my project can work. I don't tell you : " buy my stuff" I stay OK with you all and I use the best english I have!
Also, don't think I'm a noob just because you never see me here before. I speak french and it's obvious but its does not want to say that I never went on other msg board. Same for games! We don't know maybe you was not on earth when a played Coleco Vision!
Thus, I know games and work on a lot of materials and I'm sure I can do something new and fresh. Don't judge me........... It's sure I can't show you for now I starting working on. As you says : "Wait and see"
For those which my helped thanks you a lot. I like the idea to send one to a moderator to test it before.

RayB: Merci pour l'aide c'est super! Ton francais est pas mal pour un Ontarien ;D

Merci pour la clarification ...
I did think that you were suggesting selling as opposed to asking questions ... I guess that I have been gone from Quebec for too long. Which other boards do you go to ?
Good luck with your panels.
-

See, there you go with the physical metaphors, again.
-
Hey brother, it is indeed a great idea, but like everyone says, we would like to see the product and have reviews before purchasing. i could tell you i have the greatest spinner in the world for only 50 bucks but when everyone gets it, they find out i used a bicycle chain spoke and a can of cheese-whiz. as long as your product is marketable and has a good reputation, people will buy it.
