It is out today, just wondering if anyone has played it yet. I am going to pick it up this morning when I get a chance.
-
yes it rocks... much better than the regular controls of gc or ps2 imo
-
No it doesn't rock. It's the same damn game! Yes the controls are better, but it's the same damn game! They want me to pay another 50 bucks for a gc port when they could have just made a patch for the gc version?? Nah, I don't think so.
-
They dont expect you to pay 50 bucks. They expect you to pay a bargain price of 30 bucks. :)

and they also want you to mellow out, quit being so uptight and enjoy life a little too.

I'll "mellow out" when people stop saying how much they love getting gang-raped by gaming companies that charge too much for simple add-ons. This is a 10 dollar download at best.
-
Well, you enjoy your "good fight". I personally thing $30 is a good price since I've never played it before and since I can buy the original GC title for $20, this in all actuality is a $10 add-on, of sorts.
Enjoy your adult onset teen angst though.

So how well does the wii controls work with the target shooting side game with a sniper rifle?
-
Does anyone have any of the available gun attachments for the remote yet? Is the nintendo one even out yet?
-
they are all third party devices.

easy on the knee jerk reaction. is there a pun in there?
ask me if i have ever played more than a couple hours of the gamecube or ps2 version.
actually don't, I haven't and this will be my first full play through...and I'm loving even the parts I already played.
again. it rocks! aiming is not the chore it once was..
and make a patch? how on earth do you propose they do that? the wii hardware is completely unaccessable to the gamecube side of the wii..

dunno, don't think i've gotten there yet.
-
I found the GC controls to be more than good enough and accurate, i'll wait for the "real" RE Wii game to be released.
-
I might pick it up since its only 30
-
I might pick this one up in a bit, after I've finally beaten the GC version. I've been borrowing it for quite a while now and just need to find the time to finish it. I don't think I could stand to start all over on the Wii version before seeing the end of the game.
On a bit of a side note, what other games in the series are worth playing now? Or, should I phrase that as "what game should I play next"? I've only played RE4.
-
I don't know, I recently played the GC version a little past the tentacle guy in a barn boss fight (I'm about 1/2 way through the level after him), but I don't have much compulsion to finish the game. I think I mainly just don't like the shooter controls with console, so maybe I should pick up the PC or Wii version, but I probably won't. IMO Eternal Darkness was a much better game.

Since when is there a pc version?

If you don't like the GC controls, sounds like you definitely won't like it on the PC. Just read the reviews in that link you posted. Looks like it's a poorly done port.
Personally, I didn't care much for the controls either when I first started playing. The idea that I couldn't move and shoot at the same time was almost enough to make me stop playing the moment I started. However, I love them now and am hoping that future games use something similar. I want to play the Wii version first though, to make sure that they have carried over to the new console well.

Everyone kept telling me how great the game is, which is why I played as far as I did (I think I'm about 3 or 4 hours into the game), but I still hate the controls. I've always hated shooters with console controls though. The analog stick just isn't nearly as precise as a mouse, which is why I thought I might like the pc version. Having accurate controls would probably make the game too easy though, which is actually something they said about the Wii version in the EGM magazine review.
edit* I just remembered exactly where I am in the game. I'm at the second save point into the second map (the entire map seems to be a castle). I haven't played in about a month, which is why I was a bit hazy on it.

I really enjoyed it on the gamecube, but never could finish it. I think I got passed the giant boss or whatever and stopped.

You aren't very far at all into the game.

As I said, about 3 or 4 hours in. Far enough to know my mind isn't going to change about the controls.

Yes, it will. I HATED the new aiming controls for about the same time you played. The barn boss was an extreme exercise of frustration. Somewhere along in the castle, it "clicked" with me. Even my wife, who is coordination impaired ;D, finally got the hang of the controls in the castle finally.
-
Hoping to pick this up today.... The last RE I played was on the Dreamcast.
-
Picked it up last week for .25. Haven't had a chance to test it out, but will give it a go soon hopefully.
And by picked it up, downloaded it.

I guess I was fortunate then, since I beat that boss on my second or third try. The most frustrating boss so far has been that short guy at the end of the castle level. I can't count how many times I fought him. There's one move he does that will kill you everytime if you get in it's way.
Anyway, I have to give my gamecube copy back now, since I was just borrowing it. I guess I'm going to have to pickup the Wii version and start all over. Oh well...
-
The pc version is really not all that bad even without the upgraded graphics patch. Even with so many bad reviews it still looks a hell of a lot clearer and detailed over the great GC version. Even more so with the patch.

The graphics aren't what I'm trying to draw attention to in those reviews. I was referring to the overall opinion that the controls are terrible. There's no way to use a mouse, you can only control it with either a gamepad or keyboard. I have no problem with using a gamepad when I'm playing a console game, but this is a modern shooting game on the PC; it needs to use the mouse.

There is a super EASY way to beat him. I didn't know it when I fought him, so I ended up using pretty much all of my ammo. That's all I'm sayin'.

They have a mouse patch if you search the web.

Well now your making me reconsider the pc version. Maybe I'll just download a "trial" copy to try out ;D

I might get it, I have never played any RE games before though.

Neither have I. RE4 is the only Resident Evil game I've ever played. However, they explain enough of the storyline at the beginning to make it less confusing. Really, it won't handicap you. I'm just dying now to finish RE4 and try the others.
That's good to hear that there's a patch for the PC version to allow mouse control. Too bad though that the devs didn't seem to think that was a necessary feature for the game to ship with.

Yeah, it was not made by capcom.
