Can someone suggest a video card / component adaptor combo that is known to work. The video card must be AGP and a cheap, slower card is fine since I will only be using it for MAME. I've seen several Sapphire 9550 cards that are priced around $50, but I don't know if ATI cards manufactured by 3rd parties will work with some of the adaptors I've seen. Basically, since I haven't bought anything yet, I just want someone to tell me exactly what to buy that is known to work. Thanks!

I tried a grandtec scan converter with component out on a sony vega or is it wega and the difference in quality is there but it is only slightly better than s-video. Without advancemame or arcadevga strait to RGB it will always end up a dissappointment to someone who is picky and wants something even close to RGB. If there was a way to get a direct conversion to component out without the darned dot crawl flicker thing that is always going on then it would be fine, however in my experience prepare for dissappointment unless you go RGB. It seems that all video card manufacturers are converting vga to component and here comes the flickery dot crawl thing.
I really get sick of s-video or component output myself, however if others are satisfied with whatever then for them that is all that matters. Personally, s-video almost gives me epilepsy and a headache. ATI and nvidea do the best they can at tv out but it is still very poor compared to strait RGB, which is rock solid dots that never seem to move or flicker. Anyway, I would be curious to see what ATI component looks like in hopes of a cheap convenient way to get a authentic or nearly authentic arcade display but I know better

what about this card...it comes with it's own component adaptor:

The adaptor plugs into what looks like the svideo connector, but I wonder if it's a regular svideo connector or a special connector that outputs svideo or component based on which of the included cables is plugged into it. I don't want something that's just converting a lower quality svideo signal into component. Has anyone used one of these nvidia cards that can tell me in more detail how it works?

Here is the card you need. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133189. So it's just a little bit pricey at $2,399.99 :laugh2:

computarmann is right when he says rgb is the best but in my experience with componet ati has the best tv out and with the x1300 you can use soft 15 and get arcade resolution on your tv

Alright, does anyone see anything wrong with this combo?

The x1300 costs a bit more than I'd like to spend, and I don't think I'll need the added performance when running mame...
