Hi everyone, I have a Williams Firepower and Flash pinball machine that I am trying to bring back form the dead. A friend gave me the pins for helping him move (I would have did it for free food but who's complaining) The pins light up when you turn them on, but the CPU LED's
are both lit, meaning from what I have read that the boards are locked up. I have read the repair guides on on Marvin3m web site and he talks about a test chip that he uses for troubleshooting the driver and CPU boards. Does anyone know where I can buy one of these chips at? I know the code for the chip is free but I don't have a Rom burner, or know anyone who does. I would like to try and repair the boards myself if possible because I don't want to buy new ones (It sucks to be poor!), and I will need to learn how to trouble shoot them myself anyway. If I can't buy the chip can anyone burn me one, I will be happy to pay them for their time and materials. If not, can someone recommend a good Rom burner that doesn't cost a fortune to buy and a novice can use. I appreciate your guys time,
Thanks.

Stephan over at www.HobbyRoms.com can probably burn you those, or Clive at http://webpages.charter.net/coinopcauldron/Index.html .
If you are interested on buying a rom burner check out the Pocket Programer over at http://xtronics.com/ It's an excellent value, does virtually all of the roms you run into playing with arcade machines and it's cheap. Stay away from the Willem (and clone) programmers, the price makes them attractive, but they aren't worth the money and support for the older rom's stinks.
If you are just looking to get a couple of test roms made up, probably makes sense to just get Stephan or Clive to do them for you instead of rigging up to do your own. If you strike out with them, shoot me a PM, I can do them up for you, but you'll probably get them quicker from Stephan or Clive.

Thanks for the info D_Zoot, I'll try them for the chip and see what happens, if not then I'll let you know about getting one form you, also thanks for the info on the burners, I had heard of the Willem but don't know enough about them to know whats good or not. Thanks again for the info.

Have you tried here?

Also, I think mikesarcade.com has the chip.

Thanks for the help guys, Stephan at Hobbyroms.com said he would be glad to burn it for me!Ken, I saw it at pinball.flippers.info, but it said ROM burning services are currently not available, but thanks for the info anyway! You guys are a big help, hopefully I will be getting the machines up and running before to long.

I have both of Leon's Williams system 3-6 and system 7 test chips. Both were very helpful in getting the cpu boards up and running.
