I would like to make my cotrol panel out of 5/8 inch MDF, however, Lowes and Home Depot (at least in my area) only carry it in 3/4 inch and 1/2 inch. Any one know where to get 5/8 inch thick MDF?
If I can't get MDF in this size, and recommendations on what type of 5/8 inch wood to use?

Try Plywood and Lumber Sales (PALS) in San Jose, California. They have everything!

I got it at Home Depot. The first Home Depot I went to only had 3/4, but I tried another one a little farther away and they carried the 5/8.
Just shop around, or phone first... :-)

Home Depot I go to didn't have 5/8 MDF. Then months later when I returned they now carry it. By the way, didn't someone say that its a bad idea to make a cp out of MDF?

Okay, I've called every Home Depot, Lowes, and 84 Lumber in the area and none of them carry 5/8 inch MDF. Any suggestions on what other type of wood would work well for the control panel?

Try calling a lumber yard that isn't part of a national chain. Tell them you want 5/8" MDF. If they tell you they don't have it in stock, tell them you want to special order it. You might also try WoodFinder (http://www.woodfinder.com/) to locate a lumber yard in your area that can special order the stuff. WoodFinder doesn't have a search for MDF, so try "Hardwood-veneer plywood". Places that carry hardwood-veneer plywood will tend to sell to custom cabinet shops, so they're more likely to stock or at least special order 5/8" sheet goods. Not everyone is listed in WoodFinder, so be sure to use your local yellow pages, too!
If you can't find 5/8" MDF and 5/8" sheet good can work: plywood, OSB (assuming you're going to laminate it), melamine, particle board, etc.

Thanks for the info ScottS. Yesterday I was able to find a local small lumber yard that can special order it for me. Quick turnaround too. I ordered today and it will be here on Thursday.
