Do most of you guys have all of the games work on whatever version you use.
I've tried quite a few different versions and I would say I can probably only get 70% to work . my computer skills are pretty crap so it might just be me.
I've took it for granted that's all I get but how do you get on ?
I'm not even using any chd's.

Short answer...No...all games do not work.
What games are you having trouble with?
What is your computer setup?
Which version of MAME are you using?
Etc...etc.
There are some great guys on this board...they are very good at trouble shooting...but they need some info.

I really just mean in general , I wasn't sure if most other guys were getting almost all games to work or if they were the same as me.

My first question would be a question I can't necessarily ask, or maybe the other way, that you can't necessarily answer. So, to rectify this, I'll suggest this: use clrmamepro on your sets, relative to your Mame version.

Two that bug me that other people sat work are Speed Racer and Irritating Maze.
Speed Racer, I can't get out of diagnostic mode. People say to hit F@ or F1, or something, but it never works for me.
I have hit every button on the keyboard, and can't get it out.
Irritating Maze keeps telling me I am missing roms. I have the most up to date roms for my mame version, .115, and I have used older versions I found from other websites and from some newsgroups, and still no luck.
I know it has to be just something silly I am missing.

Dunno. Never played 'em. Had a simliar circumstance with an odd game called Slither. I think it got fixed in later versions, though. The worst one is Playchoice games. Not only do they have that stu-pid dual screen deal, but they have all these weird keycodes just to select things.

Pretty much everything working on mhy machine. I don't bother with the CHD games, because they mostly don't work no matter what you have, and even if they did, frames per second would be the sux0r...

Irritating Maze is a Neo-Geo game, so you have to have the NeoGeo.zip bios file in the rom folder along with the Irritating Maze rom for it to work.
If that doesn't fix it, can you tell us which files show up missing in the command prompt? I probably won't be able to get around to looking up a solution right now, but some sights will list all files in the zips so you can make sure you have all the files in your zip needed that way.
I used to have trouble with Liberator, but downloading another site's file fixed it, sometimes you just have to pull stuff from another site.
And, of course, practically any 3D graphics game (like Cruise N USA) is still way too resouce consuming to bother with still since Mame is a 2D engine. For some of these there is the Zinc emulator, plays titles like Kikaio, Strider 2, Rival Schools, and Street Fighter EX2Plus.

So true.
Along with 3D games, part of this is because our PCs might be too slow to handle these files, and its partly because mame doesn't seem to be optimized to run these sort of things.

That could be it. I hardly play anything that needs bios's and often forget about these.

Also, not all sites are up to speed with mame release.

That was it! Thanks!
I never knew it was a NeoGeo.

Are you not getting the roms to work, or are the roms working, but you can't see the out put correctly? Because you may find the rom is working, but whatever output device you use can't sync to that res for that game...
Just another idea for exploration...

Before you play any game check out MAWS (Google it) It will tell you what roms and BIOS files you will need. Sometimes you need a parent set too.
Great resource.
