Title: Suggestions on Temporary monitor (LCD) while 19" arcade monitor being repaired
Post by: y2k600f4 on June 12, 2007, 01:34:05 pm
I have a 19" arcade monitor that was in the cab when I purchased. I plan on looking into if it works or not when I get time (new cap kit if needed etc) but in the meantime I would like to utilize a 19" LCD 4:3 or 5:4 ratio (later can be used on my desktop PC). The problem is that most 19" LCDs are 16:10 especially the ones on sale. I am trying to keep the $ down for now. Any ideas on where to get a cheap 19" (not widscreen) would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about 19" But I spotted some non-16:10 larger than 19" flat panel monitors at WalMart. Not sure what the ratio was though. I'm also not sure whether they were LCD or plasma.

What caught my eye about them was that they were being sold as television sets, but they sported the more advanced inputs, such as DVI and the like. I didn't look much into them though, so I don't know anything more than that.

I guess cheap is a matter of perspective, but LG makes a 4:3 19". I used one for my bartop. It was $220. Here is the build thread with some pics...

Its not the LCD on the desktop w/control panel, its further down.

I'd pick up a used 21" PC CRT. Cheaper and better picture.

Good suggestions....been going thru the daily craigslist posting for weeks. No luck, stuff either sells quickly, over priced or just not available. I was hoping to have the arcade up and running but I think the repairs will take some time, and probably will end up getting a new one in the future.

As far as the LCD....any suggestions on a minimum response time ? I am seeing a lot of 8ms and rarely 2ms. Circuit City has an LG with a contrast of 3000:1 and 2ms, 19" non widescreen for about $200 onsale and with 10% off coupon. I was hoping to land a new one for $150 but it seems like they are all widescreens on sale with mostly response times of 8ms or so. Any thoughts ? Thanks.

I'm considering the Sceptre X9g-NagaV for my cab.  its 19" non widescreen, 8ms with a 170 degree viewing angle in both directions.  $169.99 from newegg or tigerdirect.  It seems like a good choice to me, but i could be missing something.....
