Title: An official thread for "should I pick this game up?" posts?
Post by: Jeff AMN on June 12, 2007, 10:47:53 am
What do you guys think of having an official thread somewhere for people who are looking for advice about whether or not they ship pick up a cabinet in their area? I see a lot of threads about this, and I think it would be helpful to keep the board cleaner and also a fun thread to look through to see what type of finds people are coming upon.

With that said, I think I'll start!  ;D

This Omega Race is listed locally for $150. The claim is that it's in great condition except for a sound issue that's most likely a "short in a wire" somewhere. As long as it's not a monitor issue, it might be an easy fix, right? Does this look like a good score? I like the idea of saving the vectors.

If the monitor is working, I'd snap it up at that price.
I doubt it's a "short", probably a board issue, but I'd still get it.
(though my opinion may be skewed, as omega race is on my "grail" list)  ;D

First, from a fellow Jeff, it's an excellent idea.  Second, definitely a good score.  I'm sure one of the guys on here can help troubleshoot the sound once you get it.  It would be good if people can post pics, that way we can see goodness/damage, if it's a different cab than an original, etc...

Well, I contacted the seller, but I haven't heard back yet. Hopefully it's not too late, huh?

At $150 it's a no brainer even if nothing currently works.  Great condition vector game.  Purchase.

I would say go for it that seems like a good deal.  I am in the Indianapolis area and have yet to find anything under $500.  I did find a Pac-Man that was suppose to work but I couldn't talk the guy down from $1,200.  That seemed a little on the pricey side to me.  Or maybe I am just cheap :dunno

Cool cab, go for it.

No to the unified thread idea. I find that once they get to a huge amount of posts (like the free items and seller recommendation threads), they get unwieldy and I just ignore them.

I would say don't pick it up, but I live too far away to get it myself, so I'll say pick it up then  :P

There is one in Hastings, Minnesota.  Local pickup only, so probably will go cheap:

Well,  I sold my Joust and will be dropping it off in Riverside, California on Friday evening.  At the same location as I drop off the Joust I will be picking up this Vs. Excitebike.   I am not 100% sure what I am going to do with it... it will either become a vertical 48-in-1 cabinet ala my Double Donkey Kong+ project with the idea of selling it OR I may drop a 1000-in-1 multigame in it and keep it next to the vertical DDK I have.

It looks to be in pretty decent condition.  I am paying $250 for it.

How hard is it to swap out Vs. games?

That would be Idaho and it's about 1900 miles round trip.  I am,  of course,  doing other things along the way.
