Title: GPWIZ49 which modes do you use ? 8 modes only have 6 buttons available
Post by: y2k600f4 on June 12, 2007, 01:12:46 am
Today I received (2) GPWIZ49s from Randy T at GGG (excellent service and help) along with the rest of my order. I am currently completing my CP and I am just about to wire up the (2) Williams49 joysticks and 6 buttons per player (along with 1P, 2P, 1P coin, 2P coin and 3 admin buttons- pause, restart and quit).  Plus I just learned I need to add a JoyMode button (possibly hidden) to select Joystick modes. Anyway my question is what modes do others use if they only can use 6 out of the 8 available ?

Unless you are using a Mac or Linux, you can select DRS modes via software and you can just ignore the JoyMode button function.  It's sometimes handy to do the switching via a quick button combo, but not at all necessary under Windows.

Thanks Randy ! That sounds great, now I don't need to wire up (2) additional buttons.

Now to modify my CP so that the williams49 joystick connectors are to the left.....I mistakenly followed the original mounting with the connectors towards the front......can't wait to try them out !!!

I use the Player credit and start buttons for modes 7 & 8 even though they don't much use.  The modes that get the most use in my cab is Raw 49, 8-way & 4-way (1,3 & 4).

Randy, I have a question.  In any mode except the 49-way modes is the dead zone expanded?  In other words, the first ring around the center position, is it ignored?

Kaytrim....do you use the set49mode software that integrates into MAME for autoselection of modes (assuming you have a MAME setup and 49ways ?)

I haven't had the time to get it setup properly.  As the 8-way gets 90% of the use I haven't had the 'need' to do so yet either.  I am just have a test cab anyway.  I hope to get the real thing built sometime this year.  When I do that then I will go the full setup with software.

When the time comes now I know who to call. ;)

(thought by that time Randy may be out with his new version)

I too was going to wait for the latest and greatest version....but after speaking to Randy it seemed like the GPWiz49 eco would fit my needs well. Depending on what you want/need that is why you are waiting ?

I like the option for the dual sticks and interfacing with rotary switches.  You can get a rotary switch that will attach to the Midway 49-way sticks. Here is a link (http://www.markoates.com/rotary/).

"Dual sticks" may not make it into this version.

Kaytrim: link seems to be down.

Dual sticks: you mean, like, no Robotron, etc?

No, like, "no 2 sticks on one interface."  Up to 4 interfaces may be used on the same machine.

The jury is still out on whether more than one stick will be supported.  I'll have to think about it a bit more....

Randy, you do what you think is best for your customers.  I'd still like to see two sticks on one interface but if it is not feasible I won't complain.

shorthair, thanks for the info.  I just sent an email to Mark.
